I have been an iPhone user for a good few years, but I think that I am going for a Samsung next time. Apple were miles ahead, but have now been caught up and there really is no reason to go for an iPhone any more and be restricted from doing certain things.

No, that was the Nokia 3210. Took 3 films to finally destroy it
To be fair though, what would you be trying to share?
I think it's down to personal preference. I brought my gf a Nexus for Christmas and I'm not impressed at all, slow, apps aren't as good, build quality not the same as iPad.
People say Apple is t value for money but it doesn't slow down with time, lithe build quality is without doubt better and longer lasting. For me the layout is simple and pretty much perfect. Restrictions? I don't see any, but I use my phone for no more than apps, tecxting, phoning, Internet, music, videos ect, I don't see what these restrictions are.
If you can afford it apple is better IMO.
Fair enough Busby
I don't think there's a right or wrong answer but it's just good to hear what people have to say.
There are a lot of restrictions with iOS, but you will never notice it until you experience Android on a solid handset. All the cheaper Android handsets are trash really, the bad UX will take away from the excellent OS.
I work in tech with lots of people who use their phones for all types of things from the normal to running quite high end apps - alot of them were Apple users and had like the previous 3/4 versions, most got the 4S on day 1.............most now have an S3 and say it is by far the best phone they have ever owned.
And busby you are comparing one of the cheapest smart phones on the market with one of the most expensive. Restrictions are paying for apps that are free on android. No back grounds or personalisation to talk of (i can change ever aspect of my phone), and this is just the tip of the ice berg and not to mention itunes

But you are comparing an Audi TT to a VW Polo. Of course, there will be discrepancies.

I had a Samsung Ace and that one wound me up big time. I've gone to an iPhone and I love it in comparison, although everyone is raving about the S3.
Just try to Bluetooth contacts from your old phone into an iPhone!
I hav an iPhone and an android tablet. I'd say iPhone has much better apps, but the androi has more freedom. Operating systems are about the same.
ive just got a htc desire hd, but its up for renewal.
it does me ok to be fair.
i was toying over getting an i pad but opted for the MUCH cheaper kindle fire HD cos i was skint which cost me 160 quid.
absolutely bang on.

Android use Google Contacts, why not transfer your contacts using that?
Android phone for me, however my wife loves the Windows 7 phones. Everything is free on Android, Apple makes you pay. For me it's that simple. They already charge you an arm and a leg for the fecking phone then you have to pay for the things you put on it. I-tunes
I got the galaxy tab 2 10 inch from tesco for £238 with £50 cashback from samsung................£188 or £330 for ipad.......let me think.
With android you have so much flexibility. You can even install apps that are not available in playstore. E.g. betfair is one. I think its not available in play store probably because its a betting/gambling app. But you can go to betfair's website and install the app directly from there by downloading it (no need to root or anything). I don't know whether apple users can do that.
By the way for tablets, gogole nexus 7 has a major advantage. You can set multiple users on it. So when I log in I see my facebook/emails etc and my notifications. When my wife logs in it is the same for her. Switching between users takes 2-3 seconds. Really great feature that would never happen in Apple.
Every App on the Apple App Store is checked over by apple.
As someone said above, you can go onto a website and install apps for Android.
Which is safer?
I lost interest in phones about a year ago, got myself a cheap Sony which works fine. Before though I was one for the latest models.
Having used both Apple and Android products I have to say that Apple is very restricted and doing anything through iTunes is a pain in the ass (I still do both for my parents).
Apple is better quality though, the Apps are better and they run better (my niece is still using my old iPhone 3G which runs pretty much the same after 6 years).
Android is pretty much the opposite, plenty of freedom but lower level of quality in apps and the devices themselves (the missus still upgrades to the latest must-have phones and within a couple of months they are noticeably slower).

You can only download apps from sites on Android if you switch off the safe downloading feature.
