I just use a bog standard phone that makes calls and texts. Does everything I need it to.

I love my iphone 5. Can do just about everything I want except play flash streams...but I got a desktop for that which I prefer over laptop. Had a laptop before and contemplated on buying a better one but went for a new desktop and now when I go back on a laptop it looks crap and annoying.

SB - you can't do anything. Get other programs, modify them. You're basically forced to used Apple products even when they know their product is worse.

I love hearing tablet fanboys' explanations as to why they need whatever new device comes out, as if the idea of NOT having some sort of screen to look at/music to listen to whilst you do everything is the end of the world.

Half of the 'reasons' people give to try and justify being iSheep are ridiculous.

Things like, "...well I just can't use a laptop when i'm on the toilet, so I NEED an iPad"

Or, "...yeah, but if I didn't have a tablet, how else am I going to watch Breaking Bad whilst mowing the lawn".

Every trivial, two second job throughout the day HAS to be filled by technology. Switch off the bloody tech for two seconds people and INTERACT WITH HUMANS

Are you slow? Because you just answered your own question, nobody needs a tablet, it's just nice to have. I don't own one personally.

I laugh at the evolution of mobile phones.

They started huge, then got smaller and now they are getting huge again.

Technophobes

My mate just bought the Samsung Note 2 and I've driven cars smaller than it. My phone still has proper buttons don't like touch screen but doesn't look like it's going away.

I hate people who think its okay to rely in certain technology yet berrate the technology other people like to use.

Tell me NBC, what are you using to comment in this article? A computer? A phone?

BusbysBabes - I didn't actually pose a question, it was more of a rant (as stated at the end). Just commenting that the reasons it's 'nice' to have one are mostly unconvincing and trivial. As you said, no one NEEDS one, but people trick themselves into thinking they do - SOME people, obviously, not all

Imo Android is the better phones, in general.

But Apple have the better apps, usually, like Video snapchat, etc!

One example, I know.. Poor :P

You could ask why people need a car, money, computers, telephones ect. None are exactly vital to the human existence.

gotcha Toor, yes, there seems to be a 'Backed into a corner syndrome' using apple.
But for what i use it for its sublime, however, saying that, with the Introduction of Final Cut Pro X, i am now turning on apple, cos how they have treated Editors using that product is nothing short of a disgrace.
if its not broke, why go fix it.... but I can Use other editing tools on the Mac so no problem there.
but i agree, the lazy culture of relying on Tech is getting out of control...

I just think people go with a trend whether it's better or not.

Earphones were better because they are smaller, now headphones are better because they are bigger. It just takes a few people to start a trend and people go with it, they have to have it, as their friends do. I never go with that, I prefer to go with things that are better.

I often have this conversation with my wife who wants a laptop because it's white but completely ignores the fact that the black one is twice as good. Or she wants a car because it is black but ignores the fact that the white one is cheaper and has better features.

It's all about the trend and what people what others to see them with.
