I imagine it's contract length that's the sticking point.

As good as Edwards is with data, we're probably being too data orientated and worried he'll fall off a cliff in 2/3 years.

Have to make an exception for someone like Salah though.

Let's not forget VVD has already said "see what happens in the summer". That has not gone well either.

not been a good move bringing edwards back has it lol i get it with someone like hendo but salah and vvd are different breeds, rarely ever injured and clearly have a few more years left at this level.

Just pay Salah whatever he wants and give him the contract he wants. If we end up paying a crippled 36 year old Salah 300,000 a week, who cares if it means we get his remaining good years. Consider it a retirement fund.

Yeah we don't know the full details but right now...can you really argue against Van Dijk & Salah getting 3 year contracts though?

If they want 4, then I can see a problem because the decline post 32/33 can go either way tbh...but as been mentioned, they are elite athletes.

In an ideal world, I would probably offer them a 2yr deal with option for one more depending on targets achieved.

They will always have the option of Saudi after a few more years here for a final big payday just because of their names.

Just give them 4. As others have said we can just sell them to Saudi anyway if we need to, especially Salah.

Tbh if Salah does move this summer, I hope it’s to a proper club. I could see Real or PSG wanting him tbh.

We can only go on by what 2 of the players have said so far:

Salah - No offer has been made to him (twice)

VVD - Has said "see what happens in the summer" in other words no offer.

I imagine verbally we probably already have offered 2+1.

You'd assume Salah at least wants 3 years concrete which makes sense from his POV.

gd news is i think salah wants to stay, think his family is happy here. just think he wants to feel valued and appreciated with a high pay where as the club prob wanting him to take a pay cut smaller contract.

he'll want to set more records in the prem im sure

im just hoping its been agreed itll be sorted before end of the season but they keep coming out saying no offer etc says otherwise. Theyre free to speak to other clubs in jan so if its not sorted by then theyre off.

Just watched the Salah clip. That didn't look like a man who was angry or frustrated with the club for the lack of offer. It looked like a man with a knowing grin on his face!

I think the situation generally is concerning but that clip looked like Salah was having a bit of fun tbh.

Worst thing is that had we offered them a 3 year deal last summer then they would have been half a season already into that new deal.

It's not like we've not seen him have tantrums though.

The thing with waiting for the summer is that, as of Jan they can agree with anyone not in the PL.

Who knows what sort of sums get thrown at them

Hopefully they're waiting to give us a nice Christmas present or something.

Hard to believe you’re 40 years old.

I still think he signs to be honest. This strikes me more as one last push Salah's side to not need to compromise on what they want.

Get the fans riled up to put pressure on the club, especially after he won us the game yesterday.
