Backing a player dosent mean you are blind to his poor performances. I know Carrick has had a few bad seasons, but i've always insisted he'll come good again. What's wrong with that?

Carrick has never had a bad season.

United fans have a distorted sense of reality.

He maybe didn't reach the heights of previous seasons but that is not to say he had a bad season.

Well those of us who have backed him against the criticism he was getting from our own fans that went beyond just "he's struggling a bit isn't he" to "sell him" and "he's never been good enough" , have been justified with our previous arguments because he does bring a solidity to the team that other players don't, it's just that after the City game (and a few others) that lack of protection infront of the back 4 was woefully exposed.

And the great thin gabout 606 is that you can check users post history and prove that this isn't just a response to a goal against QPR

im not being funny but ive always backed carrick. ive never once doubted his average ability and he's more often than not proved me right with the exception of saturday where he had a little blip and scored a goal but im positive he'll be back to his medicore best in the next game.

Mr Chelsea, rather than worrying about United why don't you tell us how average Mikel is?

I have no feelings either way about Carrick. He's not as bad as Gibson, not as good as Keane. A Nicky Butt level of player.

Compared to some of our former great midfielders, he's average. But we do not have any great central midfielders right now.

I treat all our players the same, I'll slate them if they have a bad game but find it pretty pointless slating them before a ball has been kicked.

I've always backed Carrick and told plastics like CP that he'll come back to form and he's a vital squad player. But you see we have many idiots that call for his head or indeed want him sold so they can think we'll buy a Sneijder or an Ozil and then these players may help the glory hunter's desires of another trophy. I'm happy Carrick is back to his best now, and it's so funny to see people like CP biting their tongue and admitting he's good now too. Long live Carrick.

Ah, Mr Chelsea, thing is, he keeps winning titles (he's only missed out on one out of five since he joined, hasn't he?). The rest of the squad must be knackered from carrying him if he's that mediocre.

Great teams are made up good players that complement each other, not just the flashest and most expensive players available.

Mr Carrick has been caught up in a few things. CL winner turned CL loser. Fans watch in jealousy as Barca midfield take all comers and makes them look average. Then city Look like they have a great midfield that can challange and all of a sudden utd fans are in a state of sheer panic. What has happened utd? are we finished? OUr midfield is nowhere near good enough etc etc.

If you look back over the last few seasons carrick has actually been better than average. Winning that 19th Title was a massive achievement. Another CL final was a massive achievement.

Utd fans have now become jealous of other teams and are genuinly scared that it is all comming off the rails. Which of course it is not. Its Manchester united, not barcalona who we look up to. We have our own Identity and it does not involve slating our hardworking players when times get hard.

I am of the opinion that he has never been good enough for United, and never will be. A view shared by just about every Tottenham fan I have spoken too on the matter; laughed all the way to the bank.

And considering they now have Parker, Modric, Van Der Vaart and Bale in midfield, I can’t say I blame them.

I'll admit that I've been critical of Carrick in the past, I'm sure most of us have, however I've never slated Carrick or any Manchester United player for that matter in the way that I've seen some on here and BBC 606 do in the past. I think that's the main difference that some posters on here have been trying to point out.

There are certain posters on here who seem to love nothing more than slating a player. They'll always be looking for a scapegoat after a bad performance and the worst thing about is that they never let it lie, they have to go on and on creating article after article on the same subject and player even though we know exactly how they feel.

yeah carrick's good but not that good.

mikel > makelele > carrick

I've always rated Carrick and even in bad form he generally makes a good defensive contribution to the team.

Is Makelele still playing

I knew Chelsea don't exactly put their faith in youth......

Makelele was better than Carrick, regrettebly.

I don't think we desperately need to find a better version of Carrick. it's the Scholes type midfielder we're missing.

i wish he stil played for us

my only criticism of carrick is he rarely puts himself about in matches. he seems afraid of making a tackle sometimes. thats my observation of him.

"And considering they now have Parker, Modric, Van Der Vaart and Bale in midfield"

Parker + Modric + Van Der Vaart + Bale = 0 Prm Lge & CL medals

Carrick = 4 Prm Lge medals, 1 CL medal

Football is a team game. Carrick is a team player, and a very good one.

That's Because he does have limited ability. None of us pretend otherwise

World-class players who play in his position are hard to find. When you bought Makelele from Madrid their results went downhill immediately.

Not even they could replace him, and they're funded by the Spanish taxpayer

OP just trying to justify all the criticism he has laid previously on carrick? pls do not put the blinkered ones together with us who see what carrick does for the team.

take a video of the last 5 games that he has done well apparently and compare it to the poor games he had in the previous years and i promise you there will be little difference in his play. more likely the the difference will be in the players in front and beside him. he has one of the most thankless of roles which i think took a 6-1 thrashing to make clear to many.

the fact that most good teams in the last 5 yrs since he joined us has had him at the core of our midfield is not a coincidence. an idiot is saying things about carrick and spurs bla bla bla. ask spurs how well their season was the year he left and just exactly how many players have they bought to finally make the position good enough to not be constantly leaking goals against relegation teams. good enough to qualify for CL once after getting so close with carrick as their midfield tone setter.

do not bunch the people who have known carricks contribution to this team during his time with united with the others who seem to constantly look enviously at teams who have yet to do better than us in carricks yrs with us. de rossi, sneijder, gotze etc would be incapable of playing in our midfield if a player like carrick was not beside them. glad we already have carrick.

p.s. cannot wait for him to get blamed for our next poor result. you just know its going to happen.

give him time and space on the ball and he can pass just fine. and his performances have been better than mediocre the last few games. but i thought the issue was that he goes missing in big games?

by scoring against qpr has something changed there? unless fans now see qpr as a "big game"....?

Carrick is constantly intercepting and making tackles.. Think your watching the wrong guy
