How can an economy that was 3rd only a few years ago now be classed as a superpower in the same mould as the US?
You two are looking at how China spends its money, as opposed to how much money it has.
====================

Are you joking ?????

America is almost bankrupt due to spending so much more money than it has.

JPB: So now you're saying America is not a superpower? Is that correct?

"How can an economy that was 3rd only a few years ago now be classed as a superpower in the same mould as the US?"

Value/size of domestic economy DOES NOT EQUAL superpower.

Unless that is the definition you are using. Is it ??

No, he isn't.

stop making it up myhammers.

i have said no such thing.

you have said that china is not a superpower like america because china spends lots of money but doesnt have a lot of money.

i have pointed out that you're argument is totally asss about tittt, because as perhaps everybody in the world except for you knows, america is massively in debt (to the extent that it almost went bankrupt last year), whilst china is bailing much of the world out including america.

it's you who have set the test. ironaically, by your test china is a superpower and not america, but it's your test, not mine.

Surely, how powerful an economy is is based on how much money it has. It's very simple.
How they choose to invest that money is another matter.

To repeat, are you now suggesting China is a military superpower?

Is this something else you know fk all about then ?

Which comment either of us has put do you interpret as supporting this contention ?

"stop making it up myhammers"

JPB,

He is using "strawman" fallacy because of the hole he has dug himself into (and won't stop digging) .

He cannot concoct a definition for "superpower" that China will not satisfy. He cannot use the more widely-used definitions to refute the claims for China either.

China is a world superpower. TODAY.
Economically. Politically. Military.

Is that comment not suggesting that America is not a superpower? Why else say it?

RDBD: I ask again. Are you saying that China is a military superpower? Yes or no?

The comment is made to pooint out that america nearly went bankrupt last year due to its inability to meet debt repayments.

You have given a superpower test which america fails and china passes, not me

JPB: What nonsense! America is the world's number 1 economy. That fact that they are heavily in debt does not change that.

"To repeat, are you now suggesting China is a military superpower?"

In terms of military conflict, conventional +/- WMD, which nations N could do to China what China could do to N ??

The USA ?? Russia ?? India ?? The UK ?? Spain ??

I think we quickly see that Chinas' absolute and relative military might is very high indeed.

Strangely enough, immense military might is ONE trait often associated with countries that are known as ... superpowers.

"America is the world's number 1 economy."

In terms of what ??

1. Capital wealth
2. Economic production capability
3. Something else

What is the 'myhammers test' of being a superpower ??

posted on 30/7/12

RDBD: I take it your convoluted response was a 'yes'. So China is a superpower militarily? Nonsense! You're looking at isolated examples to back up your arguments.

For your information, America's military spending is greater than all the next 9 countries combined. Do I really need to provide links of how weak China is compared to the US?

China has a powerful military. But they are not a military superpower.

posted on 30/7/12

What unbelievable nonsense from the both of you. You're saying that America is not the number 1 economy.
And that China is a military superpower.

Guys, stick to football!

It would probably be a stronger argument than suggesting economic tests which america fails and china passes, as youve been doing up until now, yes

"Nonsense! You're looking at isolated examples to back up your arguments."

I am looking at the ONLY argument.
What is the size of the set of nations N that can defeat another nation Y in military conflict ??

When Y = China, N is very small indeed.

"China has a powerful military. But they are not a military superpower."

Please feel free to provide your definition of "military superpower" for us to understand and scrutinise.

Again, can you state the 'myhammers tests' in black and white ??
