We have plenty of players that can score at a fast rate, Compton is there to see the new ball off and anchor the innings....

This is test match cricket, not t20.

He`s doing ok

I can't see Compton making it, and that's because of Root. I'm not just jumping on the bandwaggon. I played in the same Yorkshire sides as Bairstow and Root (Joe was the year behind me and Jonny, but played in our year) and he has always been a class apart. He is the youngest county player to have been awarded a scholarship - 11 i think it was. He was always going to be England's opening batsman, and i can't see that Compton has what it takes to prevent that from happening.

My god......not only chest beaters but self acclaimed back slappers...

The 1st days play took me back to when a beer was $0.80 and watching Boycott.
Albeit a steady ship was required, but shish that was slow.....

when vaughan first started he could hardly score a run. he was like bill athey. once he played a few tests though, his natural game flourished.

like pid though, i cant see past cook and root as the opening pair after this game.

loool root didnt do any favour to englands score by batting at a sr of 29.

root scored 20% of england's total. i would rather have those runs than not have them thanks.

You reckon? Rahane to replace him?

posted on 14/12/12

cant do much neon. all our batsman are averaging 30s since 2011 wc. not sure how many we will replace. do agree dat youngsters will surely do better than seniors at this time. especially seeing how pujara has done. need tiwari rohit sharma, and rahane in this team to bring fresh enthusiasm in the team

posted on 14/12/12

not sure whether wc was a gd achievement after seeing this past 2 years failures. it has taken the interest out of the senior players.

sehwag is 34 right now, and he becoming an easy target to every bowler. i think we shud push him in midde order and start preparing for SA tour ow whitewash in SA is inevitable.

remember we wont have in form tendulkars and laxmans to save our batting.

As I said before the test match and during England's 1st innings, leaving the top order unscathed and dropping zaheer was clearly a mistake

posted on 14/12/12

Agree, dropping Zaheer was a shocking decision.
This pitch is very slow and I don't see the Indians scoring quick runs with Sehwag back in the hut

Jimmy again. Are Indian heads dropping now?

posted on 14/12/12

Jimmy bowling really well now to get another one. have to feel for SRT, when things aren't going your way you always seem to get a ball that has your name on it.
