I don’t think he himself knows. I’m more worried about how mentally players have clocked out after West Ham 2nd goal and today, they either look drained or self belief is gone.
A lot of his and Edu’a decisions over summer have backfired big time.

No...but am starting to wonder, as good a job as he has done, if he might have reached his ceiling.

We should have been chomping at the bit today to put 4 or 5 past Fulham and instead bar a slightly lucky goal to open it up, we were bystanders

I havent got an explanation what is going on if we lead a game and then dont continue to play football? Why is that?

Complacency. We reek of it, top to bottom

I really don't think it's motivation. I believe players are not taking responsibility and passing it constantly to Saka to do something. How many times did Ode attack the box? Martinelli couldn't make a simple run to be through on goal when Havertz broke through the midfield! A bit ridiculous but I go back to Capello saying this team needs a superstar.

Looking last season was more of a one off. Twice finished 8th, now looking like we’re in for a proper fight to make sure we get top 4.

Like the start of the season. No one in the top 4 is safe. The most open premier league ever?

Arteta: "We didn’t have enough ball speed, enough movement, enough threat, and when we did, we gave too many balls away. We didn’t deserve to win the game, and that’s very clear and simple. Throughout 100 minutes, we were never at the levels that we wanted."

If we don't get top-4 as a minimum this season, he absolutely needs to be kicked out the door. Finishing out the top-4 wasn't even something I'd considered up until recently. But if that hypothetical becomes a reality, there can be no debate on that.

Must be, can’t recall the last time at half way point only 3 points separated 1st and 5th.

How ironic if Villa and Spurs end up finishing above us

posted on 31/12/23

Remember when I used to say that top 4 should be a requirement for a club the size of Arsenal?

Game was at 6am here and I've been drinking for a week, no chance of getting up.

How bad was it?

Very

People need to calm down though about the possibility of not finishing top 4.

Villa won't last the course, and Tottenham's luck can't go on forever either.

Who else is going to challenge?

I figured with CL on top of last year we should be expecting top 4 challenge, not a title challenge

Respectfully Lex, these aren't concrete reasons to believe that we're going to get top-4 with little/no challenge.

A lot of teams have improved and Villa are a genuinely good side. I will admit I would be a bit surprised if they last the course, but it wouldn't be a major shock. They have a good manager and good players.

Spurs also have a good manager and we can't keep attributing where they are to luck. It speaks volume they are 1 point behind us despite being in transition and all their injuries they've suffered throughout the season. They also have one game a week for the rest of the season (depending on the FA Cup), so they are absolutely a threat.

Two weeks ago we were battering Brighton (who just battered Tottenham) and had De Zerbi calling Arsenal the best team in the league. I don't remember too many pundits picking him up on that at the time either.

Today is the first game we've lost this season were I thought it was a fair enough result. Newcastle and Villa were both incredibly lucky - though I accept the Newcastle game was tight enough that one moment/decision could decide it.

The only other match I can think of where we were so poor a loss would've been a fair result was the Chelsea game, which we drew.

Top 4 is not guaranteed by any stretch. But it's not exactly on a knife edge either, as some are making it out to be.

All teams go through bad spells. We are going through ours now. Expect Liverpool to knock us out of the cup but the break afterwards will hopefully do us some good.

The issue is very simple and also can't really be fixed internally. Goal scoring. At the moment, we are putting tremendous pressure on Saka to be the man alone. And with respect to him, he is only 22 and still developing himself.

Get in a top goalscorer and everyone will relax and all the fairies, Marti/Ode/Havertz will also start contributing.

The MF is unable to control games and is not capable of getting us back in games.

This is all on Arteta, his tactics and his signings.

What are you on about Castor. Teams just sit back and hit us on the break. We have ridiculous amounts of possession where the midfield has complete control. We just don't have any threat in the middle, so teams just force the ball wide where they double bank because they know no one is going to score from the middle.

Then once in a while they break out and end up scoring.

posted on 31/12/23

Biggest problem with Arteta teams is that when they are behind they are unable to salvage anything from games. Yes we have come from behind to win games but when we are a goal behind, we create even less when the scores were level

posted on 31/12/23

Again. If the only tactic against us works, why would they do any different? In fact most teams sit back after they go ahead. Teams do that from the very start against us.

We just need a strong striker in the middle who can hold the ball up and win against centre backs.
