Liverpool fielded a bunch of youngsters.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They have a better academy than ours, obviously.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Or a manager brave enough to play them instead of the likes of Cedric, or Kiwior out of position after subbing him off at half time last game cos he was so poor...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The circumstances are different though, as we're seeing from the reaction of our fans today Klopp has much more good will in the bank so can be afforded mistakes in a game like this, especially as they're the away team.
If Arteta had started youngsters and the game had gone exactly the same then they'd be using that as a stick to beat him with instead
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Instead he made the same mistake as a few days earlier and paid the price. So what has he benefited.
And it backfired with Kiwior. Lets not dress it up gt.

Have I been frustrated with his lack of use of academy players in the past? Of course. Is today the day to bemoan that? I really don't think so.

Before today we lost 2 games and havent won a football bame in 6.
So I know why Arteta havent trust the youngsters against a difficult opponent today.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yet he trusts someone who played so badly last game he was hooked at half time???
I am not saying he should have played 11 kids, just one in a position that player actually plays in rather than making the same mistake again and again.
Surely in a team with Rice and Jorginho plus one of the best CB pairings around it was open to risk Lino Sousa. Or Reuell Walters in the dead rubber against PSV instead of Cedric?
Also think it's harsh we're talking about Kiwior for a somewhat unlucky OG and a shaky 10 mins instead of the front line who really cost us the game
Nelson got his chance today. Once again. Has he used it?
Do I expect Sousa doing better as LB against Liverpool?

Unfortunately we've seen absolutely nothing of Sousa so I have no idea whether that risk would have been worth it. The fact that we've not seen him at all to date is on Arteta for sure

Nelson did okay, was unlucky a couple of times. But has hardly played so unlikely to be fully match ready so you can understand why not everything came off for him. Another issue with Arteta, barely plays players then chucks them in. ESR - 5 minutes???

It's very, very hard at this level, especially against a top class team, to come back. We were dominating and Liverpool were feeding on breaks. Nunez had loads of chances but he fluffed them. It's inexcusable to lose a goal when they were getting just as anxy as us.

Same. Admittedly we were totally dominant first half so didn't have much to do, but our 4th choice left back not being amazing is less of an issue than we're having with our forwards who have let us down a few times now.

Usually in the past at Arsenal, and at other clubs at present, when first team players are not performing, the academy player would be bought in. However the academy players have zero first team experience so how can they even be expected to fit in for a game or two? Arteta’s management of the youngsters has been quite crap since day 1.

Was thinking that myself. Liverpool played 4 academy players (who were all given debuts by Klopp).
Publicity stunt with Nwaneri aside, we don’t even have an academy player in the 1st team squad that Arteta has given a debut to
It doesn't matter. We wouldn't have scored if had been playing now. The dressing room needs a lift that only comes from the transfer market.
You can't repair that with one transfer
