You guys will learn to appreciate Vertonghen next season

------

i dont doubt this.

it will be true because i think that he will improve a lot as he is more used to our league etc... that said all my comments have been based on his performances last season....

I don't think he got better at things he is bad at as the season progressed, so won't hold my breath. I think it will take the best part of another season before we know if he will improve his concentration and positioning.

The reason we missed out on CL was AVB (who I like) put far too much emphasis on the Europa and this cost us results in the Fulham and Liverpool games.

Regarding our CBs, Kaboul is comfortably the best but like Walker he gives away far too many needless free kicks in very dangerous positions. Hopefully he will cut this out when he returns.

Agreed

His background is the Dutch league and playing LB for Belgium. Both roles allowed him to have more time on the ball.. future captain imo.

Because that counts for what in real terms?

He joins a list of great defenders consisting of Vermaelen, Dunne and Wes Brown.

the players totally facked up in milan mate. AVB messed up with the line up a bit, but the players thought the job was done... had a 3-0 lead to protect, and messed it up - had to bring on a half fit lennon which then wiped him out for most of the rest of the season, and we were shattered going into the fulham game.

avb made a poor team selection but the players were a disgrace that night.

as for blaming avb for not getting 4th because he was trying to win a trophy.. that sounds a bit silly to me, unless we are not bothering to try and win cups any more?

we should write a polite letter to eufa and the fa and ask to be excluded from the europa league, fa cup, and carling cup next season, so that we can focus on the league

i for one hope that avb tries to win the europa league again this season.

Wes Brown and Dunne are not world class

It's refreshing to see there are a few that can see faults in Vertonghen and aren't being carried along by the hype. He is a very good footballer who has plenty to learn in the art of defending - positioning, organisation and concentration all need to be vastly improved.

That is clear to anyone who watches the game properly and isn't blinded by the fact he scores a few goals. The potential for greatness is there, but there is much work for him to do

In My view Europe league had nothing to do with our league position. What will we be saying if we qualified for Champions league?

If we can't cope the Europe league schedule we should not be in the Champions League.

Vertonghen's fault is his slack marking. I 100% maintain he is by far our best centre back though

=====================

The only thing i didnt get is we played a full strength(ish) outfield X, yet played our weaker goalkeeper - but that is (was) a totally seperate debate altogether.

It's logic that the Europa was the main cause for our finishing 5th again

Part of me doesn't buy this whole tiredness thing. Bale played all season mostly hasn't looked tired really.

And look at Oscar he's up to something nearing 80 games this season now isn't he?

And on top of that what's the point in getting CL if we can't even handle EL:

Isn't there more games, particularly at the beginning, in the EL than CL?

apart from bale our best player last season was sandro. he was so immense for the first half season that him messing the second half doesnt even push him down the rankings.
