Nothing to do with patriotism.
I don't particularly like being British or Scottish, I cringe at all that guff.
It would more be about having control as a people to change the government when they are no longer representing the people.
If, as you say we wouldn't be any worse off, then the only reason you could have for ceding power to London, would be a patriotic one, and there is no room for any of that nationalistic guff in this debate, it's bigger than that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When does this stop then? Scotland currently has a massive say in the houses of parliament. 2 of the last 3 PMs were educated in Scotland. On a whole Scotland may have a pretty different political views to the rest of the UK, but Scotland itself is pretty divided politically from region to region. Should the Lothian/Strathclyde region have its own government and the Highland region have its own etc?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Now that is a Yes.

Bailouts to the banking sector caused by UK government policy
----------------------------------------------------------------------
which was fortunate
Can you just imagine what it would have been like had wee Alex been in charge
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Absolutely horrendous, I have no doubt.
But you are the one keeping him in power. A no vote means that we will be stuck with an SNP government in the Scottish parliament for the forseeable future.
At least in an independent Scotland we can get rid of the useless <prick>
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I would take away all his powers by shutting Holyrood

Doesn't matter what I think mick, they are trying to tighten it up.
Anyway , tea time .
Vote NO
For my own sanity, I'm going to conclude that the unionists here are just trolls. Shutting the Scottish Parliament FFS.
Nationalism and patriotism is solely for intolerant selfish self serving scoundrels.
For my own sanity, I'm going to conclude that the unionists here are just trolls.
..........................
And the Nationalists are whistling in the wind hoping for the best.
If anyone's interested, there's another debate on the BBC tonight. On the panel are Nicola Sturgeon, Brian Souter (I'm not sure I'd have him on stage given his views on homosexuals), Annabel Goldie and......
Jim Murphy.
Might be worth a watch. The one last night was pretty good.
What's the problem with Nationalists? There is nothing wrong with identifying yourself as Scottish or whatever.

complete and utter waste of time space money effort.
our parliament is 400 miles away 1hr by plane 7.5 by car 4.5 by train...
why we spend money on another bureaucratic level is crazy and pointless.

All well and good, but you get folk like Hobo that are borderline facists...Just like the SNP founder...
Cheers Ivan. Theres a lot to take in on the EU question.
The passport question is a minefield too.
And for the record I never wanted the UK to join the EU.
KP, no worries mate
I'm not sure what you mean in terms of passports though?

Yeh, the oil thing is one thing I can say is a massive white lie.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
by which side....?
I would be more impressed if they just said look we don't know...
Because what we do know is, they don't know...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In the OP. The oil reserves that are there are progressively harder and harder to extrapolate, meaning new technological advances will have to be made and more expensive materials will have to be used to get the oil. Whereas they can just move to the equator and get a lot more oil a lot more easily. No brainer for oil companies really.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There is a good reason for wars in the middle east
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No there is not!!! This "our American buddies trying to secure our future energy interests" p!sh does not wash. It's not only about that, it's about control. Oil is one part of it yes, with the UK clutching onto USA's coat tails. It's just classic bully boy tactics as usual. And we wonder about the reasons for Islamic fundamentalists?

Vote Yes for poverty.

Well we have plenty as it is...
I like the West, I like it's freedoms, it's democracy its embracing of technologies and medical advancements, I like the fact that it intervened in Bosnia, in Sierra Leone, in Libya.
Yes there is a colonial legacy, but neither I nor my parents were part of it, life moves on and in general I think the West is a good thing for mankind, oh so much more progressive than the mad Mullahs and the even madder Putin.
No wonder the tories tried to surpress this story.
Ivan
Paraphrasing your earlier comment re Scots working abroad and non scots working here during the wait to join EU.
I'm not sure what constitutes a Scottish passport holder.
Born in Scotland or like the vote for independence, living in Scotland.
What happens to Scots who want to hold onto their British passport.
Has the duel passport thing been agreed or is that up for discussion?
If we've got duel passports what does that mean as far as the EU question? Does that mean there won't be mass movement of scots and non scots?

BUT you always have to remember there's a whole load of stuff they don't tell us about. Stuff the west could do lots about, but turn a blind eye to because of 'interests' in that country, or ignore altogether because there is no 'interest'.
Take the middle east invasion for example. Who was the main contractor for 'rebuilding' Iraq? Halliburton. Guess who is a major shareholder in said company? Same man who ordered the invasion. Dubya.
In fact I think you could probably find that ALL of the American senate are major shareholders in companies that shape the world, and wars are created so they can make money. Pure and simple.
