Worst or best PL season ever?

Best season in a long time, and reminds me of the 1980s to a certain extent when you saw the likes of QPR, Luton, Norwich, Derby, Southampton, Wimbledon, Forest, Sheff Wed often finishing in and around the top 6

This article is just a coming together of clichés sprinkled with a little wishful thinking.

Couldn't agree more arro.
If you're a fan who has just jumped on the gloryhunting bandwagon then it's probably a bad season for you. For the rest of us who are genuine fans

That's it for me. Moving on swiftly.

Is baffling that clubs put aside the Europa league to concentrate on the League so that they can qualify for the Europa league

If we're in the Europa league next season I'd like us to have a go at it

posted on 31/12/15

Me too and I think we'd cause no end of problems, they won't be used to what we throw at them that's for sure.

Only mid-table clubs concentrate on the Premier League just to qualify for the Europa League.

For the traditional big 6 the focus is on Champions League qualification. That's your Liverpools, Tottenhams and Manchester Uniteds, only now that the Europa garuntees a CL spot will his attitude begin to change.

Imo winning the Europa League is a lot harder than finishing 4th though. Hence clubs still prioritising the league. If Chelsea manage to scrape a Europa spot, im fairly certain their main priority next year will be getting back into the top 4 - not another embarrassing PL campaign, with a good Europa cup run.

And no offence, but of course Leicester would want to throw everything at the Europa if thats all that they qualified for at the end of the season.

It isn't a yearly thing for you and with the re-emergence of Chelsea, plus all of your rivals at the top of the league strengthening with players you can not attract, it could be your last shot in a while at European glory.

I gree with lot of what the OP says. There has been a levelling out. Teams have spent their money wisely, teams are stuffed full of internationals, top managers ( Ranieri, Poch, Klopp etc). All have good scouts, training facilities, access to computer stats etc. It will take a special team to dominate like we did under SAF;

in terms of the quality of the top sides worst, in terms of teams across the board being competitive with each other then one of the best

I couldn't agree with this more.....5 stars from me Arro.
Just a few points....

Lets face it this Chelsea team are possibly the worst ever premiership champions and along with 'some' of the Man Utd lot are the main set of fans currently trying to belittle the top end of the league.

I mean how did the rest of the league allow this Chelsea team to run away with the league a year ago?
To be honest there were signs of their current demise LAST season as they were knocked out of the CL having lost at home to a 10 man PSG side, and the way they laboured accross the line in their last 10 games with some fortunate results and amazing form from Hazard.

What a joke of a season last season must have been, with last years champions sitting 3 points above relegation, averaging a point a game, no real major injuries or player sales, and spent upwards of £40m in the summer, the way they speak you'd have thought there was a summer exodus of players at Chelsea.

Both City and Chelsea (especially City) have spent money and ADDED to their respective squads of last season, so what is this supposed drop in quality people speak of.

The rest of the league has undeniably stepped up and competition is higher than ever, shock side Leicester have produced some amazing performances alongside their results, and as someone stated earlier in the comments you can now face a Stoke team able to field a trio of Shaqiri, Bojan, & Affellay.

Would last seasons Chelsea have won this year's title? Well im not so sure, lets see where they end up this year, shall we.

I'm not sure if this has already been mentioned, but I think this season shows that, slowly but surely, the Premier League is becoming increasingly like the Championship in terms of the competitive nature of the league.

Teams are a lot closer to each other now and, on any given day, the bottom teams can beat the top teams - as Bournemouth and Norwich have shown. The likes of Leicester, Palace, Stoke and Watford are getting closer to the top teams, partly because teams get so much more prize money and TV revenue and are able to attract better players. We have also seen teams playing with more attacking flair this season as well as a sense of fearlessness when the smaller teams play the top teams, and this is causing serious problems for the bigger clubs.

As the league gets tighter, clubs who are in terminal decline will inevitably fall out of the league - Villa, Sunderland and Newcastle, all decent sized clubs with big stadiums and fan bases, are in serious trouble and I expect at least two to go down.

Time will tell whether this season is a blip or a glimpse of things to come, but I think we might be starting to see the Premier League becoming a much tighter, equal league with increasingly harder to predict matches.

Leicester might well finish top 5 this season, but won't be an established top 5 team on a consistent basis in your lifetime.
Maybe an Abramovich, or a Mansour might acheive that for you by spending a cool billion, but Leicester won't be an established anything in the premeir league for a long time.
Try and emulate the Stokes of this league by actually managing to stay in it over a prolonged period of time, before thinking about being a top 5 regular.
As as been mentioned, we saw this with Ipswich a few years back, and where are they now ?

Making a judgement on the season at midway ?

May as well give Leicester the trophy now then OP.

I'm with the guy above, a few relegation escapes and a good run doesn't make you top 5 regulars......I should know as Everton have done this in the past and had more established/experienced players too

I love the last two comments...

Who said anything about being a top 5 regular? Who needs to be a top 5 regular to get in the top 5.

If Leicester get in the top 5 this season, what does that say for all the years of failed attempts by everyone else?!

Good stuff OP.

Leicester's excellent run, Vardy's achievements and Mahrez's emergence combined with Chelsea's slump and Manchester United's failure to live up to expectations have made this season fascinating. Not best or worst, just a bit different.

I'm liking the way the BBC are now referring to the English Top Division as the 'top flight' more and more instead of the Premier League.

Plenty of fuss over Man Utd's plight too - as if they are in a severe crisis - just because they're not winning every game. Their domestic dominance was never going to last forever - some of their supporters need to get real and accept this fact. Bemoaning the style of play etc is one big y a w n. The media obsession with all things Manchester United continues to be very tiresome - this remains a constant every season. Whether they are being successful or not. If they're not it's a crisis....

....we should all enjoy their difficulties while they last.

The club in genuine crisis is Villa, which is sad to see.

I just agreed with the poster above me fella

One good half season and a few relegation escapes doesn't make a season

Neither the best or the worst for me.

I want to see high-scoring, entertaining, drama-filled games when the big games come around. 2011/12 had plenty of them such as:

United 8-2 Arsenal
United 3-1 Chelsea - THAT Torres miss
Chelsea 3-5 Arsenal
United 1-6 City

And Aguerooooooooooo of course

The worst I can remember was last season. The bigger games failed to deliver, particularly when you've got the team who went on to win the title parking the bus everytime they played someone decent.

I'm not at all fussed or excited by the 'lesser' clubs such as Leicester, Watford and Palace etc doing well this season. Thankfully I've had Mahrez and Vardy in my FF team for most of the season, but other than that, not bothered.

He vowed to spend £180m to establish us as a top five team. Chelsea and City have managed it coming from nowhere and we have proven we don't need to spend silly money to be top of the league.

With sound investment and an excellent recruitment policy and keeping these players together and of course we have a chance of establishing ourselves

Just because we're Leicester City doesn't mean we don't have the potential to be better than we have been througout our history, that's just narrow-minded. Next season we'll have a 42000 stadium too. We're going places no doubt about that!

Leicester aren't a small club at all arro

you're a top flight club who fell back a division is all

you make it sound like you're Torquay United

posted on 31/12/15

We're midsized but that's enough for us to be never amount to anything according to others.

I see no reason why we can't be top five because we have the team, the manager, the owners, the stadium and the fans so why not?

posted on 31/12/15

You can be a top 5 club arro. Don't let these top 4 snobs tell you otherwise.
