We should not be getting carried away and putting too much pressure on Alli. He will more than likely single handedly win England the world cup one day so we need to make sure he is not overhyped. He has the control of Zidane, dribbling of Maradona and the finishing of Pele, so it’s really important we don’t overhype his ability.
Gerrard and Lampard are/were more all round players, but he does appear to be having more impact at this age than they did, so talk of having more potential may be justified.

Alli is a striker. He should he compared to Rooney and not actual midfielders like Gerrard and Lampard.

Stupid making these comparisons really, three very different players.
Alli is different in his own way, always seems to drift into good positions. His general play needs to improve and I find that on occasions he does get brushed off the ball too easily but like many have said, he is still very young and will no doubt improve.
They say players peak at 27 so hopefully, he'll still be at spurs and phenomenally good

A great talent at such a young age but how he will develop we don't really know. But right now I find it hard to make comparisons because he seems far more comfortable in offensive areas than deeper in a midfield role. He has an eye for goal and good movement rather than a skill set more useful for a midfielder. But as I said, he's still young and could develop as more of a midfielder but I wouldn't really class him one at the moment.
The most ridiculous thing on this thread is whoever said he is 'physically imposing'
Seriously good player, and I agree with what Souness said that if he has the right people around him, he will be an absolute superstar.
Gutted that Rodgers cocked his signing up.
I would take him in a heartbeat at United
If anything, he's getting underrated by opposition fans rather than overrated, probably because he was cheap and from the lower tier of English football.
I imagine plenty of the people saying he's not got much to his game and isn't really all that, would jump to sign someone like Goetze, Draxler, Isco etc who all operate in a similar manner but with much less efficiency and end product, especially at that age in only his second full season in the PL.

Maybe he wouldn't have flourished as much under Rodgers. Lallana didn't.
Like Souness said, he needs the right people around him.

bear in mind that when dele was looking around for a new club the sterling contract situation was just starting to simmer.
given the way raheem was eventually vilified by all - the club, ex-players, fans - he may well feel he made the right decision.

Gerrard never really did it on the biggest stage. Anyone can score against the likes of Bolton in what was a tinpot league back then. Delli Alli is doing it in the best league ever.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Instanbul 2005 CL mate Ali aint gonna win that with spurs now is he
Rodgers told him (so I heard) that he would spend a season in The Academy team for development.
Poch told him that after his loan spell back at MKDons Dele would go into the Spurs First team squad!
The rest as they say, is history!
Alli vs Gerrard and Lampard
__________
Easy. Scholes.
He actually does play a position more like Scholes when first brought into our side, rather than his later years, or Gerrard/Lampard.

Mate the strength of the Prem was a joke back then. Liverpool were able to do well in the CL because the Prem was such a walk in the park week in week out. Spurs going out of the CL in the group (due to the tough Prem) shows how much stronger the Prem is than when Gerrard was playing in it. Gerrard would just get bullied off the ball in the physical argy bargy Prem nowadays. Not a chance he’d hack it. To even mention him in the same sentence as Alli is an insult to Delle, and sentences.
Alli isn't going to win the 2005 CL. Never.

Why isn't he? Who is to say that in a few years time Spurs won't be good enough to do well in the CL? We aren't exactly far off where Liverpool were around that time.
Too early for any comparisons.
Goals are always welcome from midfield. And his strength seems to finding and exploiting space that inevitably lead to goals.
He doesn't seem to offer much else, IMO but anyhow time will tell.
The flip side of that is that England is littered with lads who have been overplayed and then break down in their early to mid 20's. I genuinely hope that doesn't happen but he's got long levers and he's playing too much.
