Alli isn't going to win the 2005 CL. Never.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why isn't he? Who is to say that in a few years time Spurs won't be good enough to do well in the CL? We aren't exactly far off where Liverpool were around that time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Because it happened almost 12 years ago?

I finally caught on.

In terms of silverware, Gerrard's CV isn't exactly chockablock, so he could quite easily catch up and surpass it, either with us or someone else.

i don't get this "he gets goals but offers little else" idea...we are aware that he got into double figures for assists last season too? which was more than de bruyne, coutinho, mata, fabregas, david silva, lallana etc etc?

and i do always have a little chuckle at the "other than scoring lots of goals what does he do?" argument, it's a bit monty python and the romans.

Gerrard never really did it on the biggest stage. Anyone can score against the likes of Bolton

Wow.

I do rate Alli. I just don't like the obnoxious price comparisons to Pogba. Completely different scenarios
----------------

To be fair Robb, if I recall correctly I only brought Alli and his price up back in the summer due to your suggestion that we couldn't have spent the £86m Pogba money on several cheaper players and strengthened the team more than buying Pogba alone. I was just highlighting that there are good deals out there to be had. You seemed to take offence at the fact that I mentioned the two players in the same breath, but Alli isn't too far behind Pogba and is only 20. He's doing great.

Not at the same stage in their career
==============================
Gerrard helped Liverpool to win the UEFA Cup, FA Cup, League Cup, and qualify for the Champions League at exactly the same stage of his career.

Mate Marcus Tudgay scored against Bolton just the other day, in tougher footballing conditions as well. They’re not comparing him to Dele Alli. Wow Gerrard scored against Milan, who are league 1 standard at best. Doesn’t Suso play for them? They’re garbage. Gerrard never done it against anyone decent

Premier League games to reach 20 goals:
Dele Alli (52)
Paul Scholes (74)
David Beckham (90)
Frank Lampard (140)
Steven Gerrard (169)
----------------------

He's over 3 times better than Gerrard!

come on, be fair lads, gerrard has been involved in big moments in important matches against top teams all his career.

off the top of my head i can think of the dodgy backpass leading to a penalty against france, the own goal in the league cup final, the dodgy backpass against chelsea, the misplaced header against uruguay, all of that before we even need to mention "the slip".

Gerrard had won 3 trophies at the same age as Alli.

Alli scored the goals but wanyama bossed the game.

Alli looks like Mr Burns from the Simpsons......so he wins.

And Messi hasn't even scored 1.

They all played for the same club from youth..

Hopefully Southgate will see sense now and stop picking players on reputation and actually pick players who are in form and pick partnerships that work at club level. Hopefully he’ll finally do the right thing and stick Dele Alli in the number 10 role behind Rooney up top.

Rodgers told him (so I heard) that he would spend a season in The Academy team for development.

Poch told him that after his loan spell back at MKDons Dele would go into the Spurs First team squad!

The rest as they say, is history!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And that is why Poch is the better manager.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Than Rodgers? Quite possibly.

If true that does show a stunning under appreciation of Dele's potential. I don't think many (probably including Poch) would have predicted quite the impact he's made but not to consider him ready for first team squads is quite the error.

Dele's goal scoring instincts are comparable to Lampards ie that knack of getting into the box and finishing a move. His PL stats for a 20 year old who was in League One 18 months ago are just outstanding.

My thoughts too Ace
