pp, but right there in that post, you have three radically opposed interpretations of the same passage and, I take it, all of them are based on the processes you refer. Most certainly, none of them are my own interpretation, and at least two of them have been widely followed at different points in time.

You also use the term "properly" - but who says what is or isn't "properly" and, if there was indeed a "proper" way, why would churches contradict even themselves over time?

How do you know the current prevailing interpretation is "proper"?

Have been reading some the above comments with interest. Many of which reminded me of Obama’s farewell speech earlier in the year.

So much communication today is online, (the irony of posting this comment is not lost on me on here)…

In his speech he highlighted that if more people spent more time engaging with each other face to face, talking to each other, rather than arguing on social media, they might, learn to understand other cultures.

I’m not in any way religious far from it, and have quite strong atheist views (have read the God Delusion). However unlike Dawkins, I wouldn’t dream of forcing my personal views on anyone.

A local mosque (in Belfast) is having an open day this Sunday, and think I’ll pop in. What harm could it do. Might learn something. I’d urge others to do the same in their own communities.

Self-employed, not trying to become a millionaire.

English teaching for adults.

Mornings are mostly lesson prep and the odd telephone class, leaving quite a bit of free time.
