I see there are reports of further tax rises coming in the autumn budget. Meanwhile Tories are lobbying for business rate cuts..
This party of low taxes will be overseeing the highest peacetime tax bill, as well as having inflated council tax beyond all recognition, They blame covid, which i would take at face value if they would actually be honest and open with regards to where the money went, and what the benefit of the spend was, so that we could recoup government money for goods that were not delivered.
Can't blame covid for their blank cheques that went to all their mates.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
God insert you don’t half talk hyperbolic nonsense sometimes.
How much was spent on these blank cheques please?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don't know about billions but if you type in "PPE contracts to Tory donors" in on Google, literally the first hit is Meller Designs who received a £160m PPE contract without competitive tender, that were fast tracked through a "VIP lane" following recommendation from a government advisor.
Meller Designs was at the time co-owned by David Meller who donates to the Tory party.

Right ok so were any other contracts fast-tracked that weren’t involving Tory donors? Maybe Labour donors? Maybe no political affiliation?
Not as exciting as a headline I admit.
Most (not all) of this is a complete headline grabbing and little substance. When compared to the total cost of covid that has taken us to WW2 level borrowing, any of this blank cheque nonsense pales into insignificance.

From the BBC article
And if you have a process where companies referred by ministers' offices, MPs, peers and health chiefs get 'fast-tracked' - and are therefore ten times as likely to win a contract - there's an even stronger risk that contracts are seen to be awarded not on merit or value for money but because of personal connections

Then scroll down to the graph showing borrowing Vs gdp from the ONS. It's about half... And over a much much less sustained period of time.
We had this conversation before, and raising corporation tax back to the average G20 level would see that debt off in 10 years or so, but hey, better to be the party with the highest personal taxes in peacetime..

I like how two issue have been allowed to merge in to one tbh.
As a result of brexit, Gas prices had already jumped considerably well over a month ago.
Now they are rising globally and everyone is pointing to the first raise and saying "ha its not because of brexit..."
I'd say they are simpletons, unable to see two distinct jumps in at-home prices, but there we go..

I suggest you read the headline properly
"Since world war 2"
Then scroll down to the graph showing borrowing Vs gdp from the ONS. It's about half... And over a much much less sustained period of time.
We had this conversation before, and raising corporation tax back to the average G20 level would see that debt off in 10 years or so, but hey, better to be the party with the highest personal taxes in peacetime..
