Well. I thought they'd lose a lot of ground, but didn't expect them to lose.
Now is the time for Starmer to submit a vote of no confidence in the government. Let the public watch the Tories squirm as they try to vote for confidence in the government whilst simultaneously trying to internally vote for no confidence in the leader.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure now is the right time.
Their trajectory is very clear. There’s an argument to say that Labour should concentrate on the legislative agenda, and let the Tories implode under their own faltering steam.
There’s a lot for Labour to talk to the public about: the stripping of basic human rights in PCSC Bill, sleaze (which they need to be forensic about and is a message that always hits home harder as govt poll ratings fall), NHS and care staffing shortages, logistics and supply, disastrous pandemic management, etc.
They don’t even need to talk about Brexit yet; that’ll speak for itself in the months to come.

Most likely something about the Tories getting more votes than Labour still in that seat. That will be his main focus.

The Tories won't vote through the no confidence in the government. It will add to their implosion as they reject that, but then submit no confidence votes internally to change their leader.

We’d only hear the argument that Johnson beat Starmer in a VONC. Boris and the whips could use that to try to shift the momentum back a little.
I’m not disagreeing with you. I just think there are two potential ways forward, and the VONC route is not without its risks.
Some more amazing stuff about last night:
- Tories had held the seat for nearly 200 years
- Strong Leave-supporting constituency electing the Lib Dems
- Tory voters wholesale abandon the party but UKIP and Brexit Party can’t muster as many votes as the Greens

Morning fellas
I don't think Boris will lead the Tories into the next GE and if I was Keir I would be asking the Mirror to ease off because the best thing that can happen to all other parties is for him to stay in charge.
It's a bit naughty (but not unexpected) that the media are making out its the shock of the century lets remember he bookies had the Libs down as favourites. As Tam said I would I feel obliged to point out that Labour went from 2nd to 3rd.
As I said yesterday I bet the Tories take it back at the next GE when the Libs won't be able to chuck the kitchen sink at it.
There's still 2 and a bit years of this government to go, all well and good to glory in the tactical voting victory last night but does anyone think this tactic will hold?
