To those who were worrying about disappointing Israeli data a month ago, this is why you wait until the full course of vaccination has been followed before judging. People were too desperate to get data last month and they were calculating efficacy in people who had only had the vaccine for 2 weeks or 3 weeks then be upset when the efficacy wasn't great. Of course it won't be great, there will have been a huge amount of people in that dataset who would have been infected before getting the vaccine or shortly after getting it, or just 2 weeks after getting it. In the first two scenarios, you are completely unprotected, in the third you will only be partially protected. This is the actual result that can be compared to trial data:

93% efficacy at preventing disease
Near 100% efficacy at preventing severe disease

Real world has pretty much matched the trial.

Only thing bringing everything down / the hope and positivity is these SAGE guys though, I get with trying to keep it realistic but saying we’re going to have to wear face masks for ever and no hugging and distancing until next year is complete drivel especially if the vast majority have been vaccinated. All their comments do is bring people down, push them further into depression and will make some people question what the point is having the vaccine if nothings still going to change and push others into breaking the rules.

Because the same problematic mutation that partially avoids current vaccines is also present in the Kent strain, which has far higher transmissability

Titty is very clued up on this subject, and had been throughout covid (I'm assuming it's job relevant) so I'm interested what he's heard.

I get that but I mean it didn’t go wild in SA, we have similar population numbers and their highest day of cases was 21,000 and they hovered around 15k-20k for 2-3 weeks and have fallen dramatically since

I meant in terms of actually vaccinated people per 100. Think they’re at around 11, we’re at 27 or something and israel was like 63.

That's the issue here, people retire to wilts, there's a lot of old folk in towncovid is currently ravaging a local care home, 35 positive tests, 10 dead so far, including a colleagues mum.

My rentals moved to County Durham recently my dad is 67 has had cancer and previously diabetic but not booked in yet. I’m sure it will happen this month but it is quite odd but I guess there’s more 70+ year olds so they get priority slightly ahead of him which is fair. It’s just a bit odd because I read that the north east is right up there for vaccine rollout so would have expected him to be booked in by now. We’ll get there though I’m sure.

unless she gets a run at for Colchester at centre mid I don't really get in what situation she will ever have to take one anyway
