Contrary to all the reports over the weekend, a deal for Harry Maguire is not yet agreed and may not be agreed
=============

And yet you wrote a full article on the "rumours"

Of course I did. I’ve been writing articles on rumours all season. I’m passing on what’s in the newspapers you cretin

The same Harry Maguire who was available for about 15 million 3-4 years ago?

Heard a rumour today that Dithering Dave wanted him in that fateful 7 months.

Not sure on this one. Maybe our knucklehead CEO has finally got the message that people keep taking him for a ride.

...........

He may very well have a point. We have a former poster who was totally incapable of reading what people write.

I was a bit surprised by the reports yesterday that Leicester had accepted £60m plus £20m add ons.

Considering that United's opening offer was £70m, and given the size of transfer fees they have paid in the past under Woodward, I'd expect Leicester to be be pretty confident of negotiating a deal for at least £90m before accepting.

Still a good few weeks to go in the window as well and I think United will end up paying that full amount.

Let me explain this. Hang on I’ll get my crayons so you can understand......

Newspapers publish transfer stories. Some of them might be true. This is one of them. I post on a football forum so fans of both clubs can debate the transfer and the price, not because they don’t know about it - but because it’s a debating forum.. The transfer does or doesn’t happen. We all move on.

What part of this fairly common form of social media football debate are you struggling with?

It's a strange thing in football when the club gets criticised for targetting a young English player in Longstaff, because he's only played 9 PL games, but also get criticised for not taking a punt on a young player a few years back that we may now break a world record for.

Buying untested player --> wait until they have experience
Buying proven player --> should have bought him before he was expensive

...So that's why everyone in our fan base is overjoyed when it's suggested we're cannily targeting an affordable, experienced player who hasn't quite worked out at his current club (Lemina) ?

We've no idea what's going on. Probably some haggling rather than any solid offer being put in place.

I don't think Ed will pay 90m though. But then again we did pay large amounts of money for Lukaku, who everyone here but Robb thought was not a good striker for a top four team.

The only two positives I see from him are in the air and staying injury free.

We should be buying the very best players for the lowest possible prices. Nothing else will do!

In all seriousness someone like Ben Yedder would be in your final bracket (minus the worked out bit). If Lukaku goes wouldn't mind that transfer.

Also, because I'm too lazy to write an article about it, there are reports that United are to 'launch a £50m bid for Fernandes'. It is the Independent and Miguel Delaney though.

He's a very good player, no doubt about it, and he'll improve United a lot.

I just think Leicester are in a very strong negotiating position. That may change if Maguire hands in a transfer request but reports indicate he's not going to do that.

We'll see but just have the feeling the two clubs will meet three quarters of the way on Leicester's side rather than in middle on this one.

I think Maguire would improve us at the back, but these fees surely don't represent value? If we're going to spend a world record fee on a CB, they need to be in the very top bracket. The only player I can think of who might tick that box as well as be available is Koulibaly.

Otherwise we should be looking at players from leagues that won't command such high fees. The Portuguese league seems to be producing some excellent talents who are surely available at decent prices. Bruno Fernandes we know about, and there's the defender Dias who is highly regarded.

Personally I'd rather we just gave Tuanzebe a chance. He's always impressed in his first team cameos and has had an excellent time away on loan. He's better than Rojo & Jones, who, although I don't really rate, are easily PL standard players.

I don't think he'll improve us much. Feels like another Lukaku type signing.

He is a midtable level defender. He will be found out in a high line defensive system.

Matip is a better defender who has proved him self against top european teams ( PSG,Napoli, Barca, Bayern) and he was a free transfer.

I think he does have certain attributes that are better than what we have. He's better than all of our players in the air, and he's better than most of our CB's on the ball. He's also got a good character and a bit of leadership about him, which we also need. I do think he's a good player. But no one will convince me there aren't better or comparable options available for much less than the quoted fees.

I agree with being better in the air. I think Lindelof is better than him in the ball. I don't really know of he does have the leadership qualities we keep hearing about.

Out of the CBs we have, he'd probably work better with Smalling than the others, so not sure he'll solve a problem without causing another.

It feels more and more to me that this potential transfer for Man Utd isn't just about buying a centre half, but a captain too.
