No Agreement for Maguire Yet

Rudkin is a huge turrd that needs to be hung from the family stand and shot at with air guns during home games.

However, I would agree that after some very costly and poorly managed transfer windows we do seem to be getting the negotiating side of it right for once.

I’ve been very vocal about my fears for the direction of the club since the title win. For a couple of seasons we looked like we could do a Blackburn. Spending silly money on average signings, not sure what our identity on the pitch was, chopping and changing managers, getting negotiations wrong etc

I honestly think in this last year the club has turned a corner and I think Top is hugely responsible for that. He’s delivering on the legacy set up by Vichai (investing in youth etc) and since the tragic accident of last year it seems to have made the club more determined than ever to achieve its ambitions

The language of: “nowhere near” our valuation seems quite unambiguous. It would appear that, despite all the speculation that has different fees and Maguire sat having a medical in Manchester, Man Utd probably haven’t offered anywhere near what we wanted.

Usually, in a situation like this, the next stage would be led by the player. Does he try and force it through or does he, as indications suggest, sit and wait. Having a distracted or disruptive player could force both sides to the table to try and find compromise. The encouraging thing from a Leicester POV is that we won’t roll over easily. The Mahrez transfer is evidence that any pursuit needs to be sustained over time and, even when a player’s dummy is bouncing down Belvoir Drive, we still hold out for a decent fee.

In summary: if it follows the Mahrez pattern then Maguire will go - eventually - but on our terms and for a decent fee. I don’t think Maguire would want to give up on the opportunity even if it does come with Man United’s star not as high in the sky as it once was.

The only thing that might stop the transfer is time. If we can’t agree anything before the summer window closes you can see this rumbling on. Then, if we are genuinely competitive come January, Maguire may decide to hang on if it looks interesting. The good thing for us then is that, even if he is still minded to leave, his fee would be at least as high as it is now.

I personally think it’s either this summer or the next for United. I can’t see us letting him leave in January, that’s an even worse time to be letting him go - there’s no one you can really bring in to replace him. January was part of the reason the club held firm on Mahrez.

I think United will be daft enough to splash the money - somewhere between £80-£90m including add ons. Best transfer business we will have ever done - and I include Mahrez for £400k in that

Just read a report that Man Utd are prepared to offer one of their “star” players + cash for Maguire.....that “star” player being none other than the legend himself......Phil Jones!!!!
Man Utd can’t give him away but thin’ we would accept him as part of the deal.
