agree. would never force a player that didn't feel comfortable for their health to play. but do think the closed stadium is the way to go.
The idiotic comment as you call it is you saying one thing than call others idiots far saying something against it!..
Question, what is the law in England as far as work goes and Employers rights?..
As far as I remember, when I worked in England the Employer had the final say, and if you went against it you had to face whatever came in your direction, loss of pay, sack, whatever!..
Footballers are contracted to their employers and have to do what they're told, the same as anyone else!..
And the employer has the right to take whatever action appropriate against anyone not doing as they're told, the same as any other worker that most of at this time'll be wishing they could work from home!..
Before we go any further, I know exactly what you're getting at as far as health goes, but people on these boards are only suggesting what they think should be and how it should go, you seem to think the world has ended and people should just button it!..
Things are hard for most at this time, but life has to sort itself out and we have to move on, nothing wrong with people saying what they think and that's why I think you're wrong when you say footballers don't have to do anything!..
Nurses don't have to either!..
How will they endanger their loved ones when they are locked in to a venue? They're not going home in the evening or after games. Tests every three days means loved Ines can even visit at certain times, like the world cup or Euros.
Clearly this guy prefers that the season be voided and is failing to have an open mind because of that. So many facts missing from his logic which explains the strange and convenient conclusions.
Reality is the world does not have a complete understanding of this virus or the true numbers of infection, immunity etc.
Heard an account yesterday that 15 of apparently healthy women who showed up for a normal delivery of their babies in hospital, with no apparent symptoms tested positive for the virus!
Very smart people in multiple countries are working hard on this virus and I am confident that answers will be found how to responsibly reduce restrictions on a cost benefit basis. Our mental and financial health as well as physical health depend on it. Hence the need to not rush into long term decisions in the short term.

It's really quite simple, you reduce or remove lockdowns, deaths will increase.
UK Gov Minister has said shouldn't exit lockdown until there is a vaccine, Italian Foreign Minister, after 5 weeks of lockdown and with another 3 or so to go till next deadline, has today said the same "We'll only be able to go back to normal once we've discovered a vaccine". He is not committing to reopening borders by the summer.
Merkel has said with an R of 1, ie one person infects 1 person, which is where they're at now, they reach health care capacity in October, that rises slightly to R1.1, they reach capacity in July, they have hardly any margin for error and this is assuming everything goes well.
UK has 5 times the number of deaths per million compared to Germany, we are miles behind.
But finally vaccines, there are four coronaviruses that already circulate in human beings. They cause the common cold, and we don't have vaccines for any of them.
Maybe people have watched too many movies, but listen to medical experts, they're pretty much all saying don't expect anything within 12 months and if we get something in 12 months it's an amazing result.
We all love football, all want to see Leeds get some glory and promotion, but my priorities are to try and come through this next year with myself and my immediate family alive, for my mother in law to stay alive too so my kids and wife get to see her again, for extended family to stay alive, for all my tennis kids and families to stay alive.
People will find a way to stay fit and sane, we've done it through wars and pandemics before and no doubt will do again, but people need to very quickly realise that we're not just going to switch back to life before in couple of weeks time again.
Jonty, all of your responses seem to be in the paradigm of either 0 or 100.
In all walks of life, we most often make compromises somewhere in between. There is a lot of discussion about phased reduction in the lockdown here in the USA. Plenty on the web and television if you want to learn more about the concept. Testing would be a huge component of that.
Here is a paragraph from BBC Sports about world rugby which is similar to what you have written about FIFA above:
“World Rugby has created a $100m (£80m) relief fund to help relieve the financial pressure on the global game from the coronavirus pandemic.“
Jonny, everyone is already making compromises, none of these lockdowns are complete lockdowns only China came close and they still suffered a lot of deaths, possibly far in excess of those reported.
There is no shade of grey regarding a vaccine, you either have one or you don't and we don't.
Testing will help a lot in understanding and potentially how to try and manage the spread, it's a big reason why countries have gone through this so differently. BUT, testing will tell us if someone had it or if someone has it. What the tests won't do is predict if someone has immunity and f so how long that will last. And of course the tests do not cure the disease. Without a vaccine there is no solution that is not a radical change to our way of life.
We see some nice weather, that we can still get a take away coffee, can still watch tv, still eat food from all over the world and people find it incredibly difficult to accept the reality of the situation, despite the medical people repeatedly telling us the reality.
The USA strategy is woeful, poor co-ordination, huge death tolls and civil unrest already with citizens taking arms to protest the lockdown, you are looking to relax this far too early.
“You are looking to relax this far too early.”
How early is too early?
Me personally? USA? California? LA?
When do you think “you” are looking to relax the lockdown/stay at home order?
Point I was trying to make there are intelligent ways to gradually ease the situation when more data is developed. It’s not going to take 18 months for that to happpen.
Look after that cough and your other symptoms! Keep your family well and safe. At least we believe that animals cannot transmit the virus.
Gov minister didn't say we need a vaccine to exit lockdown. Misquoted by Piers Morgan.
You've had 600k cases.
Lets say that number is too low by factor of 20, ie lot more cases you've not discovered via testing, so now you're at 12m infected.
Lets say that some are asymptomatic by factor of 2, so actually you have 24m infected.
Thats still less that 10% of your population, you still have over 300m not yet infected and not tested.

If "full lockdown" is 100 and life as we knew it in January was 0, do you think she meant going from 100 to 0, or going from 100 to a lower number, likely far north of 0?
I think PM (what a lovely man ) chose to interpret it as going from 100 to 0

You can see the response from the government 3 week lock down today. The a growing number of people who don’t want it, and it’s growing daily. There comes a point when economics outweighs the health reasons, and it’s coming fast.

I didn't, I just looked it up.
If you want to eradicate it, everyone needs to be vaccinated or prove they're immune (we do not have this testing yet, because we don't know the titre needs to be to prove immunity).
It took attempt after attempt after attempt to eradicate smallpox for example, it's only by mass vaccination that they finally succeeded.

It's a or b, easy:
a) She meant 0 lockdown,
b) she meant something way more restrictive than 0 lockdown but less than what's in place now?
Go for it!

If "full lockdown" is 100 and life as we knew it in January was 0, do you think she meant going from 100 to 0, or going from 100 to a lower number, likely far north of 0?
I think PM (what a lovely man) chose to interpret it as going from 100 to 0

You would have to ask her, the point is she said, fit Stevie to say otherwise is incorrect.

You don't have an opinion on what she meant?

Don't play games with me, I know you too long to do that.

It's a or b, easy:
a) She meant 0 lockdown,
b) she meant something way more restrictive than 0 lockdown but less than what's in place now?
Go for it!
