To be fair to China, once they saw how bad it was about to get, they just shut down entire cities. And whilst they have probably underplayed the figures a tad, I suspect we will never know for sure. They have 2 billion citizens, so they have in all probability down far, far better than GB.
Yesterday the parks over here were full of people sunbathing, the day before there were street parties. Is it any wonder GB is 2nd only to the USA for deaths as it stands.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Comparing how China dealt with it (even ignoring their negligence with the initial outbreak) to the UK is a little silly, no?
This is definitely an underground drive to get football back on, for various reasons mostly title and money driven, but it seems the PL is behind it all.
They are literally blackmailing clubs into getting back in training and being ready for the season to re-start.
Against all sensible advice, the German FA decided to be the leader in returning football league - Bundesliga in action. In fact, they know they would get a worldwide audience guaranteed if they do pull it off.
Yet, like predicted, already Dresden squad are in forced into quarantine. It is impossible to force the 2m distancing on a football pitch.
Respiratory droplets from an infected player with COVID-19 who may not even know that he is carrying it, can transmit infection when they travel directly from the player's mouth - coughing or sneezing to the nearest player and it doesn't take long to infect a whole bunch of players who are not at a safe distance of each other.
Greed and self-entitlement can kill. The "I am alrght Jack" brigade are the most hindrance during a pandemic.

Not really, no. The UK were far too slow and far too lllsissez faire in their attitude from day 1. It took the PM to nearly die from the virus for even him to admit how real a great it is. The statistics are damning for the UK, but they're exactly what you'd expect them to be, given how the pandemic has been treated.
As for the people having street parties and gathering in parks, a sterner line from Govt would see those numbers dramatically reduced. Not saying there shouldn't be a blueprint for the future laid out today, as that's something that's needed. But I think the underlying message of said blueprint should be that if people are too selfish to follow it, than step 1 getting to step 2 will take weeks, if not months longer to reach. I think people need to be treated like the morons they are tbh.
Players in Italy and Spain have returned and hundreds are being tested in in the past and coming days.
Apparently Madrid squad has been tested and waiting on results. Just saw a clips of Messi and many others arriving for testing.
Will be interesting to see the results of these tests.
China have one of the most authoritarian regimes in the world, with one of the most compliant populations in the world and yet they were still welding people into buildings to stop the spread.
I’m fully on board with the bad handling by our government, but China has always been a silly and pointless comparison.

There is a drive to get football on for many reasons. One of them being that tens of clubs will no longer exist if this carries on for another 3 months.

Its not only football clubs unfortunately.
Many other businesses have and will go down.

Footballers are in the low risk category .They should listen to David Spielgelhalter, who is a big Spurs fan btw, and not Sergio Aguero.

3rd Brighton player tested positive for Coronavirus. They’ll never get this league restarted.

Yeah, it's not fair but I doubt any business worth 4-5 billion could ever be allowed to close shop.

It is expected there will be positive tests. Maybe up to 100 positive tests for Italy and Spain.

So what, lots of firms won`t exist either. Football clubs can reform, people that catch it and die cannot.

Clubs going under will be low on the priority. The driving force will the PL clubs. Didn’t see any energy to save Bury.

OK then what about India, 1.3 billion people, and just a little over 2,000 deaths. If India can keep the levels that low, then what has gone so catastrophically wrong in this country, with supposedly the best medical and healthcare system in the world?

Vulnerable, low-paid workers that die or sink into further chronic social and health problems from firms/businesses closing cannot reform either. Do their lives count less than a coronavirus life? I’m sure you’ve commented before about how austerity has killed people, so it is surely important to at least appreciate businesses closing, will also kill people. Like with austerity, the lowest paid and most vulnerable people in society.
We’ve dealt with it badly, sandy. I’ve never disputed that. Just don’t think comparing our situation with China’s has any merit.
