Someone speaking sense. Just because they haven't experienced it or seen it themselves, they think there's no problem at all. Ask any BAME person and they would have a lot of examples.
Racism has been an issue for years, it hasn't gone away and most likely never will. Luckily we have phones and social media these days to showcase that racism is prevalent to this day.

In 2020 I’m genuinely stunned some people deny there is a huge problem regarding black people suffering from police brutality.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They would rather hide from the issue and deny it at all costs. It's not just black people, Asian people as well. Not just by police, in the workplace and socially.
I don't know whether it's because they choose to be ignorant or they just haven't personally seen it themselves, but either way a little education and research is all that is needed.

There are examples of white mass murdering shooters who are practically given a guard of honor by the police when they arrest them as opposed to the black/brown killer who is either murdered on the spot or given a good kicking.
the biggest problem with society/reality as I see it is that there has to be "have nots" for there to be "haves"
that which divides people is but a tiny % of what makes us who we are. Somehow we thought to focus on those differences and hate others or at least not empathise with them.
TOOR - to raise a very logical question but also one that betrays your innocence on th issue. I could go into detail but there is a reason why even law abidding black americans see the police force as enforcers and white americans see the police force as protection agency. Clue: check history, who built the systems etc etc
I used to think only blacks suffer in the hands of US cops. But recent findings have changed my views.
Blacks suffer disproportiately and are more likely to be killed. But Whites also suffer from these thugs in cops unifrom.
It's like they are not trained in de-escalation tactics. Most of the videos I watch, they're always screaming at their citizens.
Maybe the US should consider sending a couple over to the UK so they can learn how to provide real public service.

I don't think you need to be black to appreciate what happened. Although when I watched the video I can't see anything that portrays racism. It was an absolute disgrace what that cop did but how could you prove it was a racist act? They would need to look into his history to find any instance of it, or link. I won't say I'm shocked by some of the comments I'm reading here. But to say that there's no race problem in America or blacks don't have it more difficult is absolute bollox. America was built snd founded on racism and 400 yrs later, the same oppression albeit on a lighter scale is still prevalent. Those with white privilege will deny it, but the rest of the world sees it for what it is.
And to be honest, I don't see the solution to the problem. This country is deep rooted in racism that you'll have to uproot and restart most institutions to bring about a change.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think it's EVER been suggested that only black people have suffered at the hands of police. The key word in your post above is "disproportionately". The further distinction is the reason for any stop and the escalation, particularly when there is no resistance. Most videos you see will have the victim asking "why did you stop me?" or variations like "what did I do?". And in the cases being discussed alongside George Floyd, it invariably is NEVER anything that should result in that person's death, nor does the victim do anything in that interaction with the police that should result in his or her death. Freddie Gray was in cuffs in police custody. Dead. Sandra Bland was in police custody. Dead. Tamir Rice was killed within 12 seconds of an interaction with police being started. Philando Castille was shot for having a registered weapon he volunteered information about. Eric Garner killed over cigarettes. Michael Brown running away from the police. Dead. Botham Jean was in his own flat enjoying his own company. Dead. And these are the one we know about because there was video evidence. What about the ones where there is no evidence?
Do white people get harassed by police? Absolutely. But how many incidents like the above (and those names are but a mere drop) are there where a white person is involved? How often do you hear of a black person, whether he had committed a crime or not, be taken for a burger after being arrested, like Dylan Roof was after he massacred 9 people in a church?
And then the police themselves. What happens to them? By and large nothing or nothing that means much. Very few get the sort of punishment you would expect to see as a result of such actions. Even former police like Gregory McMichael have some protection. But again... video. Without it, they continue to live their lives.

I think it also comes down to how many white police officers who do this kind of thing and get away with it as well.
As long as black people are killed by white policemen and the police don’t seem to face any real kind of punishment you can’t really blame black people for feeling there’s an element of racism in the system

Yes - perhaps they need to do more in looking into the histories of people who are applying. However that's only part of the issue, it's changing the mindset, once they're in.
I read a report which stated that being killed by police is the highest cause of death in the US, in regards to young adults, which is a crazy statistic and likely higher for black people when broken down into race. Therefore there is a problem, even when race isn't considered.

Although I'd have to withdraw the 'drew guns' part as I didn't read your last paragraph properly.
____
I purposely included that part so my point was still valid.
It's easy to say there isn't a problem as a white man, when it's clear as day to anyone else
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not saying there isn't a problem, I don't know. I don't live there and haven't experienced it.

You could take a look at the UK and see the mistreatment of black and Asians by the police over here and draw similar comparisons to the US with a much higher level of violence.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I haven't seen that.

It's threads like these that tell you just how many posters we have here, who have next to no personal interaction with black people in their day to day lives. Nothing beyond surface level, at the very least.
The sheer lack of self awareness and empathy today would make Marie Antoinette cry.
I'm pretty sure many of the same people throwing statistics about the place will be just as "puzzled" the next time people take to the streets after an incident like this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I was going to write something along these lines to the effect of: what happens when white people talk about issues affecting black people. It's kinda disgusting but not particularly surprising.

I don't think you need to be black to appreciate what happened. Although when I watched the video I can't see anything that portrays racism. It was an absolute disgrace what that cop did but how could you prove it was a racist act? They would need to look into his history to find any instance of it, or link. You simply can't tell from this video.

Stories like this are littered all over. Until there's a change in recruitment policies, everything else is just beating around the bush IMO.

I don't have to live something to empathise with someone who does. I don't have to have experienced something directly to know that it has an effect on someone else. I appreciate that I am blessed not to have been unjustly arrested but I can feel pain and sadness and... solidarity... when seeing it happen to others. Where people wilfully ignore others' experiences or make excuses or downplay it is disgusting.
I won't knock you for not seeing it that way but it's a view I hold and I won't say any less.

I understand where you're coming from but can we use instances of racism to judge what happened in this video? I don't think that would stand up in court, when attempting to prove this was a racist act, rather than police brutality against a criminal.
