Nothing like that which might justify the headline. No - just a 'we havent heard anything from him yet'
Given Gio was one of three candidates spoken to at the weekend and talks only progressed to near conclusion yesterday then its highly unlikely Gaston would be handing his notice in on Monday/Tuesday even if he did want to join Gio in Glasgow.
And all this gets translated into 'China Crisis - Gaston isnt coming'?

Rangers moved swiftly on this, do they not know u need to fvck about for 5 months?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You're being a bit unfair on Celtic here.
Last time we were in the situation Rangers are in now was when Rodgers left. We got Lennon in until the end of the season and it proved to be the right decision. He came in within about 2 days
It went wrong when they offered him the job permanently .
When Lennon left, the season was already fooked and there was no rush.
You're right that they subsequently fvcked that too with the Howe fiasco but its not a parallel with the Rangers situation.
In the same situation Celtic moved faster and won the league.
Time will tell if right decision but it's a sensible one. Similar profile to Gerrard, similar playing style and has experience of working within Scottish football and playing for the club. Already has fans on side which is another important factor given the way everyone took to Gerrard as that could have left a void.
Interested to see how he does but pleased the club appear to have managed to move so quickly to avoid disruption at a crucial time.
so did they sack GvB and keep his assistant?

It not really the same situation though is it?
Celtic appointed Lennon as interim manager at the end of Feb - I am not sure what the points gap was at that time but its probably fair to say it was comfortable.
Lennon was taking over a very well established squad who had won everything for the past couple of seasons.
It was akin to letting your kid lean over and steer your car for a few seconds whilst you are driving down an empty street at about 20mph .
Rangers have won one trophy in three seasons. And its only November.
This season is still very much up for grabs - there is a long long way to go. Rushing into appointing an interim manager now for Rangers would be a completely different proposition from what Celtic did when Rodgers left.

Correct Magnum, and although this thread is about GVB becoming the new manager I don't think his appointment will be 'the' telling moment of this season's outcome, for me that will be how each club comes out of the Jan transfer window.
Celtic will strengthen, targets have already been identified, Rangers won't unless they sell.
GVB may want his own players in to make his mark on the team, if so he will be looking to cash in on players already there. Who realistically can Rangers sell to give him decent funds as well as bridge the £7M seasons end gap?
Kent, Patterson, Goldson, Morelos, Barasic, Kamara, Aribo?
If 2 or 3 of them move on its a different Rangers and who can say how that new line up would perform.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There won't be any significant outgoings at Rangers in January, one or two at most and potentially backfilled with cheaper options but there's no chance half a team are going.

I would sell Patterson if we arent going to play him.
His potential is huge - he is absolutely built for international/EPL football. But if we arent going to play him regularly for the next 2-3 years (Tav only just turned 30) and there is the possibility we can get £10-12mil up front for him plus a good addons package then it would be the easiest way to raise cash without impacting the first team.

Your correct it's not the same at all. Celtic appointed an interim manager. Rangers have stated they have no intention of doing that.
Celtic were lucky he was available at the time. The very reasons he was available however were the very reasons he shouldn't have been appointed permanently.

Selling Patterson is a sensible short term fix but not long term. Apart from anything else we're coming to a fairly critical situation with home grown players in Europe and he's one who is nailed on. Tav probably only has about 2 more years at the level he is at so I'd like to think there could be a natural transition.
However given the finances I can understand the appeal of selling someone for decent money without it impacting massively on the first team.

You will be able to tell in the next 3/4 games who is up for playing for the new manager and who would prefer a move in Jan.
Like Gerrard and BR, make no mistake players will think of themselves first and if they don't fancy GVB or are gutted SG left and want away they will make that clear.

Will be good if they’re looking to impress and get a move then.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I would sell Patterson if we arent going to play him.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Your correct it's not the same at all.

Surely selling Tav for 5-8 million at 30 would be wiser?

We wouldn't get near that. Think the time to do that was in the summer but we gave him a new deal.

Agree with that.
Would love to keep him and see him kick on, as he looks like he could go on to be Tierney good, but might never happen. And obviously won’t if he’s not playing.

It not really the same situation though is it?
Celtic appointed Lennon as interim manager at the end of Feb - I am not sure what the points gap was at that time but its probably fair to say it was comfortable.
Lennon was taking over a very well established squad who had won everything for the past couple of seasons.
It was akin to letting your kid lean over and steer your car for a few seconds whilst you are driving down an empty street at about 20mph.
Rangers have won one trophy in three seasons. And its only November.
This season is still very much up for grabs - there is a long long way to go. Rushing into appointing an interim manager now for Rangers would be a completely different proposition from what Celtic did when Rodgers left.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Rangers need to move quickly now. Looks like they have.
Celtic needed to move quickly when Rodgers left. They did.
Things were already humped when Lennon left. So unless you think Rangers are already out of the league it was completely different
When Celtic had to move quickly they did.
What is it you're disagreeing with?

Completely agree.
But they moved quickly and he did what he was asked to do.
As for being available, the same thing applies for GVB.

I think he is disagreeing the scenario in which both clubs were in when looking to appoint.
Most of the season was completed when Lennon was appointed with Celtic in a comfortable lead.
Rangers still have the majority of the season and the lead is less.
Not really something worth arguin about (but thats rich coming from me!)

You will be able to tell in the next 3/4 games who is up for playing for the new manager and who would prefer a move in Jan.
Like Gerrard and BR, make no mistake players will think of themselves first and if they don't fancy GVB or are gutted SG left and want away they will make that clear.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Will be good if they’re looking to impress and get a move then.
Win win
