Celtic didn’t have a minutes applause, St Mirren did. And from what I could tell there was applause from the Celtic fans.
I don’t expect others to agree. I expect people to hold a minute silence if they want to. I don’t think doing so at w football game is in keeping with the nature of attending a football game (exceptions as previously stated). Why do you feel the need to force those who don’t agree with you into silence? You as an individual want a silence. Doesn’t mean everyone else should be forced to keep silent. You can hold your own minutes silence amongst the noise of a football game.
And you’re back to insults. I’ll not stoop to your level.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
'forced to keep silent' once again your ridiculous strawman.
Is somebody forcing you not to write to your club? Your MP? Is somebody forcing you to go to a game?
If you feel this strongly about being 'forced' to do something, what have you done about it exactly? I have asked you several times but no response.
As for your fans:

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well my local club have not had a home game and neither have Celtic, so as clubs they have compelled nothing.
My fans 😂😂😂
What do you think about that? Are you offended?
I am not a member of that fans group, nor am I a representative.
Forced to keep silent appears to make you feel uncomfortable, perhaps as this framing highlights the ridiculousness of the concept of them at football games for someone completely unconnected to the relevant clubs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It doesn't make me feel anything - seems you're happy to introduce ad hominems where you feel they're appropriate.
The idea that people are being forced to do anything is fallacious, highlighted by the fact you haven't even appear to have made your voice heard beyond some whining on this forum.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’m interpreting what you’ve posted over a number of pages. Hence “appears to”. But again nice try
What is bizarre, is you keep referring to me as “whining” and yet you appear to need to respond. Doing so invalidates any accusation of whining I’m afraid.
You appear to have no problem with clubs holding (and thus compelling) minutes silences for people completely unconnected to their club. I disagree with it. Here’s hoping you haven’t spent the bank holiday sitting trying to debate with someone you think is a “whining child”. THAT would say a lot about you.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
So, we can conclude that you haven't done anything about these poor people being 'forced' to hold a minutes silence

I notice there are a lot of 'fans' of various clubs feeling aggrieved at being 'forced' to respect a minutes silence for the late queen.

Where is the ad hominem? Where I called another poster sensible minded? I’m happy to be complimentary. Perhaps I should have specified as hominem attacks.
They have of course compelled nothing from me. No official statement. And what Ange said was;
“I think there’s a minute’s applause [on Sunday], we will abide by whatever obligations and responsibilities we have as a football club. We will do that in a respectful manner. We want our supporters to do the same.”
We WANT. Not we compel. Not we “urge” (as you had suggested). But nice try

In the same way you don’t have to live in a country where council tax is levied. Indeed one of your comrades wished for me to be expelled from this country (or perhaps it was you!)
Nice try

"Well my local club have not had a home game and neither have Celtic, so as clubs they have compelled nothing."
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Please see above re applauses versus silences
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I believe you said your club compelled nothing, but nice attempt to try and divert.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That you wanted to attempt to divert away from the theoretical discussion in an attempt to point score highlights an inability to debate the merits
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I see so it's me trying to divert, and not you by separating 'forced silences' from 'forced applauses'
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pages and pages ago I outlined the difference in my view wrt football matches when I was asked by a sensible minded poster. I suggest you go back and read it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Another ad hominen. Thought you weren't going to stoop?
Regardless, your club urged its fans to respect the minutes applause, and they didn't. Which makes a mockery of your idea of anyone being forced do do anything.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Where is the ad hominem? Where I called another poster sensible minded? I’m happy to be complimentary. Perhaps I should have specified as hominem attacks.
They have of course compelled nothing from me. No official statement. And what Ange said was;
“I think there’s a minute’s applause [on Sunday], we will abide by whatever obligations and responsibilities we have as a football club. We will do that in a respectful manner. We want our supporters to do the same.”
We WANT. Not we compel. Not we “urge” (as you had suggested). But nice try
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Urge is synonymous with compel in some cases such as this one. Do you really not know that?

As for your fans:
https://metro.co.uk/2022/09/18/celtic-fans-sing-if-you-hate-the-royal-family-clap-your-hands-17399517/amp/
----------------------------------------------------------------------
While you’re (apparently) happy for people being compelled into silence when challenged in a conceptual debate about the appropriateness of minute silences at football games for those unconnected to the football clubs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I believe when you say something along the lines of people are being 'forced' into being silent, it's up to
you to prove it
you to do something about it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You actually did it for me. You used an analogy of council tax payment. Technically you could not pay it but consequences exist, as they would and could do if you disrupted a minute silence. Forced doesn’t just mean having your arm twisted up your back.
Again, you are comfortable with forced silences at football games for those unconnected with the relevant football clubs. I am not. What more is there to it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Incorrect, you can't pay your council tax without serious consequences.
You face no consequences for not observing a minutes silence, because you don't even have to go to the game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In the same way you don’t have to live in a country where council tax is levied. Indeed one of your comrades wished for me to be expelled from this country (or perhaps it was you!)
Nice try
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Which has nothing to do with the idea that I proved your point for you.

You think people making noise during a minute silence is childish. Urge is synonymous with compel in some cases such as this one. Do you really not know that?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But he didn’t urge. He didn’t use that word. That’s the point.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, feel free to argue with every single newspaper that has reported this as urging. There's quite a lot of them that understand the intent behind the statement.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Newspapers in misinterpreting or mis-headlining shocker!
So back to the point at hand. You are comfortable with compelled silences at football matches for certain unspecified people even if they have no collection with the club. I am not. What more is there? 🤷♂️
----------------------------------------------------------------------
nope
the point at hand is that you incorrectly believe people are being 'forced' into a minutes silence
the point was also that people that show up and don't observe it are behaving like children
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The act of hosting a minutes silence is compelling those who are present to adhere to it. You think that’s fine at football. I don’t (exceptions aside as previously covered).
You think people making noise during a minute silence is childish. I don’t have strong views either way on whether it is “childish” or not, but given you, by your own interpretation, have engaged in debate with a child for hours on here, I’m not sure I’d take your steer on what is and isn’t childish.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't really care whether you'd take my steer or not. The fact you haven't written to your club/MP when you feel strongly that people are being forced into something against their will isn't something I have on my conscience.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just the desire for compelled silences at football games for certain unspecified things that you like, and the add
hominem attacks(?) on your conscience 👍
Hope you get the chance to get out and enjoy the fresh air. It’s what I want for you 😉

Where is the ad hominem? Where I called another poster sensible minded? I’m happy to be complimentary. Perhaps I should have specified as hominem attacks.
They have of course compelled nothing from me. No official statement. And what Ange said was;
“I think there’s a minute’s applause [on Sunday], we will abide by whatever obligations and responsibilities we have as a football club. We will do that in a respectful manner. We want our supporters to do the same.”
We WANT. Not we compel. Not we “urge” (as you had suggested). But nice try

If you feel this strongly about being 'forced' to do something, what have you done about it exactly? I have asked you several times but no response.
As for your fans:
https://metro.co.uk/2022/09/18/celtic-fans-sing-if-you-hate-the-royal-family-clap-your-hands-17399517/amp/
Nice try

I believe you said your club compelled nothing, but nice attempt to try and divert.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That you wanted to attempt to divert away from the theoretical discussion in an attempt to point score highlights an inability to debate the merits
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I see so it's me trying to divert, and not you by separating 'forced silences' from 'forced applauses'
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pages and pages ago I outlined the difference in my view wrt football matches when I was asked by a sensible minded poster. I suggest you go back and read it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Another ad hominen. Thought you weren't going to stoop?
Regardless, your club urged its fans to respect the minutes applause, and they didn't. Which makes a mockery of your idea of anyone being forced do do anything.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Where is the ad hominem? Where I called another poster sensible minded? I’m happy to be complimentary. Perhaps I should have specified as hominem attacks.
They have of course compelled nothing from me. No official statement. And what Ange said was;
“I think there’s a minute’s applause [on Sunday], we will abide by whatever obligations and responsibilities we have as a football club. We will do that in a respectful manner. We want our supporters to do the same.”
We WANT. Not we compel. Not we “urge” (as you had suggested). But nice try
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Urge is synonymous with compel in some cases such as this one. Do you really not know that?

I don't really care whether you'd take my steer or not. The fact you haven't written to your club/MP when you feel strongly that people are being forced into something against their will isn't something I have on my conscience.

"Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou had urged the club’s fans to respect the minute’s applause before the game."
"Well my local club have not had a home game and neither have Celtic, so as clubs they have compelled nothing."
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Please see above re applauses versus silences
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I believe you said your club compelled nothing, but nice attempt to try and divert.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That you wanted to attempt to divert away from the theoretical discussion in an attempt to point score highlights an inability to debate the merits
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I see so it's me trying to divert, and not you by separating 'forced silences' from 'forced applauses'
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pages and pages ago I outlined the difference in my view wrt football matches when I was asked by a sensible minded poster. I suggest you go back and read it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Another ad hominen. Thought you weren't going to stoop?
Regardless, your club urged its fans to respect the minutes applause, and they didn't. Which makes a mockery of your idea of anyone being forced do do anything.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Where is the ad hominem? Where I called another poster sensible minded? I’m happy to be complimentary. Perhaps I should have specified as hominem attacks.
They have of course compelled nothing from me. No official statement. And what Ange said was;
“I think there’s a minute’s applause [on Sunday], we will abide by whatever obligations and responsibilities we have as a football club. We will do that in a respectful manner. We want our supporters to do the same.”
We WANT. Not we compel. Not we “urge” (as you had suggested). But nice try
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Urge is synonymous with compel in some cases such as this one. Do you really not know that?
