Bit mad if Curtis Jones is in and Harvey Elliott isn't.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s probably to do with the positions they play.

Both played CM more often than not with some appearances wide.

Henderson not making the squad now when he's playing for Ajax at a decent level makes it all the more baffling why Southgate doubled down and invited all that scrutiny for picking him whilst he was playing in saudi

Jones plays a lot deeper than Elliott

Elliott would definitely be in if it wasn’t for Foden, Palmer, Saka, Bowen. So many right sided lefties, but he’s definitely next on standby.

Wharton would be in my squad tbh. He’s been absolutely sensational for Palace along with Eze, Mateta, Olise etc. The one player we are crying out for to go alongside Rice in that deeper position. Not the overrated Mainoo.

Rashford isn’t going to the Euro’s

I probably would have take Henderson just as an older head as 26 players will not be used in Germany. On the flip side, take a youngster for experience.

Jones is more of a cm and Elliott’s an attacker.

Rashford dropped apparently. Don’t agree with that one, he’s one of the few players that actually scores goals for England and could be a really useful option from the bench.

But Southgate’s never been the biggest fan of his so it’s not that surprising, given his poor form.

guess anthony gordon for the left then

yeah Gordon's speed will be very important for us now

I understand not wanting to deal with a load of complaints about Rashford making it

Surely there are enough "old heads" in Pickford, Maguire, Stones, Walker, Rice, Kane. A lot of Euro finalists and WC semi finalists in the squad.

No issue with Elliott not being there due to his competition but don't see the point in calling up Maddison over him, who's been absolutely crap since October.

Good to see Quansah rewarded. He has put Konate on the bench this season and has looked really impressive for us all season minus the Bruno goal mistake. Will also give the backline some much needed pace so England can play a higher line.

Yeah true. Rice isn't an old head but he is a leader. Rice definitely needs someone along side him though. Who will that be?

I'd say both Jones and Elliott are cms. In fact I'd say Elliott is better defensively than Jones. They're both at their best going forward but for me Elliott is better creatively and has a better shot. Jones perhaps better at holding on to the ball under pressure but sometimes causes him to lose the ball in dangerous situations.

My guess is Southgate preferred Jones as he is left sided and England has loads of left footed right sided players.

He could justify Rashford based off previous England performances, to be fair.

I’d actually start Gordon, but I do think Rashford could have been really useful to get a goal off the bench. Grealish isn’t exactly gonna do that unless he dives for a pen for Kane to miss.

posted on 21/5/24

Jones has been poor since his return from injury so surprised he got the call but that says more about the lack of depth in central midfielders than anything else.

posted on 21/5/24

Greelish has made the squad, he’s been more useless than Rashford.

I guess fitness may be a concern about Rashford, as well as form.

Yeah there is that.

I'd have taken Rashford. Does pretty well for England and has that pace. Gordon has it but is unproven.

Honestly, Rashford doesn't deserve a place, and I know Southgate is loyal, but even that has to have its limits. England being successful at Euros won't depend on Rashford being there

There’s been rumours that City are after Gordon

Can’t see it myself but I’d be delighted if he joined us

Does he do well for England? Never seen him turn up when it matters. Yes scores against Wales but has always been a bench player for Southgate.

Rashford can have no complaints, crap all season in terms of quality, body language and work rate.

posted on 21/5/24

It’s vital for Kane that we have runners in behind. Foden, Saka, Palmer all like the ball to feet, so Gordon will be extremely important in this side especially without Rashford, providing he stays fit.
