yeah wouldn't have minded him or Livramento either
Didn't know LIvramento was English, should've been included in that case, even just for a friendly and to see how he settles with the squad.
If Shaw isn't fit, I don't fancy Gomez at LB.
Hall’s had about five good games at left back and Livramento is injured. Mitchell should have been called up.

5 more than the current alternatives, he's also 19 which I hadn't realised, looks a good player though.
Didn't know Livramento was injured either, shame he looks really good.
Mitchell has never really impressed me, but I'd rather a PL proven full back in his natural position than shoehorning Branthwaite or Gomez.
Mitchell’s been better than him, especially since Glasner took over. Gomez has actually played well at left back and both are much better defenders than Hall.
Livramento’s been unlucky he got injured when he did as he might have had an outside chance.

Listening on the radio it's as if Southgate is getting credit for dropping some of these really out of form players. It's what he's supposed to do isn't it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Still taken Jack 3 goals 3 assists in 35+ games for the best team in the world Grealish though
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm guessing he might drop him as he cuts down the squad. Should do anyway.
It's more how I've seen him get praise for dropping Rashford, who has been crap all season.

If we go with 26 I suspect Trafford, Quansah, Branthwaite, Wharton, Maddison, Bowen and Eze to drop out for the final squad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You might be right about a lot of those names, though personally I'd have both Bowen and Eze in the final squad without question.
Eze's ability to go past people like they're not there is a bit unique and he carries an extra goal threat that Grealish hasn't this season/doesn't typically.
Gordon, Eze, Saka, Foden & Bowen as a set of wide options has all sorts pace, running power, technical ability and goal threat, as well as a few of those able to play in different positions as well.
Insane how many outstanding attacking talents we have to pick from at the moment!

I don’t think we really need Bowen when we have Foden, Saka and Palmer in the squad.
Agree about Eze, but I think he might not make the cut due to the amount of options we do have in attack and the need to cut that down, compared to the midfield and defence where we don’t have the same depth.
Though it could be that we drop one of Toney or Watkins and go with Eze so that we have a different kind of winger to what we have.
Gomez has definitely played at his best at LB this season but the only issue is he won't provide much width.
Will improve us defensively though.

To be honest I'd forgotten about Palmer! I wonder if Palmer might actually be victim to his own style, which is a little bit Foden-esque. I'm not sure that Palmer has had a call up previously either. Southgate will definitely start Saka from the right and Bellingham behind Kane, which means Foden basically has to play from the left just to get him in. To me that suggests that if one of those players is going to be in rotation or find themselves being moved to a different position mid-game it'll be Foden, meaning Southgate might want more options and diversity of styles from his left sided attackers as that position will be less fixed.
Palmer will need to produce something impressive in the friendlies I think. On talent and performance he deserves to be in there but some loyalty to players that have been involved in previous camps + have had a good season could work against him (as well as there maybe being less scope to carry more players who do their best work from the right).
Bowen's workrate and ability to play up front as well might see him sneak in and, like you suggested with Eze, see Watkins or Toney miss out.

Yeah that could help Bowen’s case, to be fair. Palmer goy called up to the last friendlies but didn’t any game time, think he picked up a knock in training.
I think Palmer’s got a more individualistic style than Foden, that could prove useful as a sub if he can produce the kind of magic he has so regularly for Chelsea. And he’s unreal at pens, which may enter the thinking of the coaches.
There’s not going to be a hell of a lot of rotation among the squad, so we’ll see what happens I guess. Southgate doesn’t actually like 26 man squads, so it isn’t certain he’ll do that yet which could lead to more players missing out - though I think he probably will due to some of the issues with fitness in defence.
Pretty harsh on Solanke by the way not to even get into the 33.
Not really. He was never getting in ahead of Kane, Watkins and Toney.
Equal second highest scoring English scorer in the league this season. Yeah I would say it's still harsh, whether you agree he would make a first team or not. Toney got in over him and how many goals did he score?

Nobody is up in arms. It was just an observation.
Doesn’t matter, Toney’s proven over more than one season he can score goals. Impressed in the recent friendlies and is an option off the bench for pens. And let’s be serious, having him there just for penalties makes him far more useful than Solanke because Kane is never getting subbed unless he gets injured.

He may well feel hard done by, but it’s not harsh that he hasn’t made it. One of Toney and Watkins might not make it if Southgate decides he doesn’t want a third striker. If it’s Watkins that gets dropped in that scenario, then it would certainly be harsh.

It’s not because they’ve been called up because they offer some value to the England squad.
You still don’t get it, do you? The England national team isn’t a competition where you qualify but having a good season. You have to actually offer some value to the team. A player like Solanke doesn’t offer that.
And Solanke isn’t competing with Grealish so it’s pointless bringing him up. It’s also unlikely he’ll he dropped either given he’s now an established England international.
I think you're getting a bit carried away mate. All I said was that it was harsh on him, and it is. Unless you think everybody included on the 33 squad list in the category for forwards has had a better season than him then I don't know what you're arguing about?
Yes, I'm aware there are other factors at play but form is one of them.
