No one will be dumb enough to have any sort of paper trail. It will be an off the record chat and impossible to prove anything.

What's weird is that all the media were reporting the release clause...so who told them?

Just have to hope Charlie Kane isn't MGWs agent

It's fairly clear what's happened

When the news broken we told Spurs are paying a £60m release clause and MGW is having a medical on the Friday.

Now if Forest genuinely didn't know or agree and there is a confidential agreement in place then either Spurs or MGW camp has breached agreements or the governing body rules around approaching players.

I totally get that Spurs fans want the best for Spurs, and I don't expect a great deal of sympathy from other fans particularly as we feature in other news at the moment! But legal agreements and laws set out by the governing body should be stuck to by everyone right?

Seems to me that either both or Mgw or his agent revealed to Tottenham about the release cause

I don’t see what Tottenham have done wrong

It’s the player and or agent that’s in the wrong ….if that has then made the release clause nil and void I would understand that

I guess the punishment to the player is now you don’t get your release fee option and the move

Keeping him would be a disaster for Forest though….he won’t ever sign a new deal and you aren’t gonna have a very happy player

Just seen a vid of him playing in a double pivot against Brentford. Class.

Completely agree that he has to go now, it's just about reasonable compensation for Forest.

Don't blame Spurs for this at all

If their is confidential agreement the player signed up to it, if he breached it then it's on him.

Does that really well

Personally think he is one of the best around and receiving the ball in his own half and moving the team forward, he can one touch with others, long pass or beat players with drop of shoulder and pace/skills.

Only question mark is his finishing, numbers speak for themselves.

Breaking the confidential agreement, if it actually exists in the way Forest seems to think

You can't break a legal agreements with consequences

They don’t get a penny more lol

They literally can’t prove anything. The one axe they hold is asking for the full amount up front

Why should Spurs pay a higher fee because the player or his agent has breached a confidentiality agreement, Spurs have done nothing wrong.

👍🏻 He really is an all round baller. He can do everything to a level. He would be a incredible signing.

Confidential agreements exist only if parties agree to them. If MGW & his agent disclosed to Spurs what the release fee clause was then it is not down to Spurs at all.
However it is a very fine line if the agent has contacted Spurs then it should have been clarified as to whether Forest were aware of this contact. If not then it becomes a grey area legally.
Everyone and their dog knows that tapping up happens and I don’t doubt that Forest have done their fair share of this in the past.
Having said that, the Forest owner is a disgrace with his behaviour and this threat is typical of him.
There is no way that MGW could stay at Forest now over potentially being blocked from joining Spurs.

I don't think you are fully understanding the point

Of course Spurs wouldn't pay more, they didn't breach an agreement

The compensation will be owed by the party who breached it! (Assuming it's proven etc)

Agree with this

Just add that if there is a confidential agreement assume it was set out when he signed, obviously kept quiet for 3 seasons.

Worth remembering that as crazy as Forest must seem from the outside, within the leadership group is Nicholas Randle QC who practices in sport, if he is saying there is a breach fair to assume he knows what he is talking about!

Of course he might not be directly involved and it's all the owner shouting the odds, hard to tell at this point

Nottingham Forest have now made their legal complaint over #Tottenham's move for Gibbs-White.

The problem we've got with this deal is that Forest are under no obligation to accept the terms of the payment. They have to accept the overall amount but they could just easily say "we want the full 60m now" which would make it near on impossible for us to match, given how payments are often amortised in the game.

Maybe there's detail in the contract that outlines how the deal can be structured as part of the release clause but if it doesn't have that, were screwed. The owner could just screw us over and demand it all at once.

Is it a case of Forrest will string this "victim strategy" for as long as they can just to pee us off.

Should we call their bluff and just say fek off to them.

No because the deal on the table from Spurs is the very least he can get from any team, unless MGW were to decide to sign a new watertight deal on better terms. If Spurs were to threaten to drop out, another club will take him for 60m easily.

Like I say, I think the difficulty will be the payment structure. He could just be a major cvnt about it and keep MGW shackled to the club.

yeah I get that, I mean in the current circs it looks like forrest will mess us about for as long as they can in the hope someone else puts a bid in. ...... unless of course MGW has set his heart on coming to us.
