A genuous debate on immigration should always come from a starting point of established facts. Once that foundation is built then you can go on to address the problem and possible solutions that all/most parties find equitable. The problem in this modern world we live in is facts are a fluid movable feast to one side of the divide. They change, or are distorted, to suit whatever disingenuous bad faith argument that's being put forward.
A typical tactic we've seen from the Trumpian/Faragian polical side is accusing your adversary of the exact thing they themselves are engaging in. I think there is an element of this at play by those who put forward to argument about lack of sensible debate on immigration.

So you are saying we can call Tommy Robertson marchers whatever we want?
Yes, it's not binary, there are different levels of Tommy Robertson marchers. Ranging from Tommy Robertson marchers who have concerns about illegal immigrant, up to Tommy Robertson marchers who want the eradication of muslims. All still attended the Tommy Robertson march. My view is that ALL Tommy Robertson marchers are reetards. And many others here share that view. Your view appears to be that you share some of the concerns of the Tommy Robertson marchers (but you won't say this) so defend this level of Tommy Robertson marcher. I do not share the same views as these minor level Tommy Robertson marchers. You seem to think that we should understand their frustrations. We don't.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I wouldnt go as far as retaards but those at the moderate end of the scale will not be surprised by being judged by association...that does not make it right though, nor helpful and i suppose it is to be expected in this environment.
I have been on record saying that our uncontrolled immigration is of concern, on many levels. I do not see it as the cause of all our problems, it's more of a symptom, and in fact our problems as a nation need immigration as part of the solution.
But like any sector that requires more workers, those you select are the ones who best meet your needs.
Our immigration policy should be tailored to meet the needs of our country, not just an open door policy which is more or less what we have seen for 5 years.
My primary issue in politics is always the economy, so i do not see immigration as a lead issue that would have me voting Reform, but it is intertwined with immigration. A sound policy will have positive effects and i reject the notion that all immigration is good and brings more benefits than bad, the impact of large scale immigration goes beyond the economy and for some this cultural impact is what riles them the most. I think it is those sorts who tend to find the more extreme positions, a concern fundamentally based intolerance/prejudice, but not all people dwell in the extremes.
Right now i think our immigration policy needs to be focussed not on as being as nice or as nasty as possible to anyone wanting to come here, but to make it work for the country. Basically, be bloody selfish about it. Right now we are not in a position to be loose and generous with our policy.
The same applies to illegal immigrants. It is a fallacy that all those coming here on boats are genuine asylum seekers, they are first and foremost illegal immigrants who when they arrive will seek asylum. Whether their case is accepted or not is determined on merit...but as the most recent case has shown with teh 1 out 1 in policy, that man is playing the legal game (to the cost of taxpayers, not himself) that could see him stay here up to another year before he is deemed to be able to be sent back to France. That fundamentally does not seem right and even the Govts KC stated in proceedings that to allow him to stay will undermine the deterrent-effect of the policy and show other the way to play the system. It is a system built for abuse and on one side of the argument, all asylum seekers are awful and their boats should be sunk and the other side they are all persecuted people who need safe shelter and anyone against that is right/far right etc Neither are right but our policy is failing and mistakes are costing us billions.
None of that should see me labelled as anything more than someone who has a considered opinion on a subject and if you disagree with me with an equally considered opinion then fair enough. Many do not respond that way in debate though, and thats why i find myself pushing back at lazy binary labelling of people. My views may well be aligned with some on that march, Tommy might agree with me, although his solutions would probably go a lot further...but that does not make me Tommy or a supporter or a sympathiser. My view is my view based on my observations, knowledge and experiences. I don't follow anyone.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Which at the is all that TR supporters get upset about at the end of the day. Even British.... black, mixed race, and asian, faces..... are all just P*k*s to them who need drumming out of town.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly.
I’m so bored of these flag$haggers whinging about immigration 24/7, if they hate this country and it’s people so much just do us all a f*cking favour and leave.
Russia or Eastern Europe will probably suit.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This post and its responses kind of sum up what's wrong with the country. I don't particularly agree with Dev's points, as I think the immigration numbers are far overstated to suit an agenda but he has listed some reasonable points that aren't necessarily centred around pure racism. He's saying that key workers are essential and shouldn't be the subject of such strict border control. The responses are completely disproportionate. This is what I meant regarding extremes. No one is reasonable any more. Twitter has completely obliterated nuance and context.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You think any of those flag$hagging nonces on the march understand nuance?
Get real.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Probably not but my point is that it's not solving a problem call them all racist bigots just as it's not helpful for them to call those of us more liberal types 'woke'. People seem to be so desperate to box people off as one thing or the other.

And this is what facks me off about the whole immigration debate, the people that have manufactured an economic system that is heavily reliant on immigration for it to function are then scapegoating the very immigrants they rely on.
And the very people that are being conner into blaming immigration for the problems in the country have actively enabled this economic model for decades.

Well said lads. With immigration bring such a core issue in this country, how can people be so uninformed or disinformed about it? Is it an accident that these facts aren't hammered home everyday?
When an immigrant commits a crime it's immediately on all the media day after day, but crucial facts are not. What happened to journalism? It's been like that for a long time, same thing happened with Brexit.
Looking at the trajectory of the country it’s important for people if a differing background, especially Muslims, to leave to safer nations. I think if you analyse historical persecutions, those who leave earlier have better chances. I hope I can achieve this objective before next election. Trying to convince my parents, especially mother who is English, is the challenge. But not impossible.
We fetishise criminality by certain people and villify others in Western culture. In the UK look at how The Krays, the great train robbers, cockney gangsters, the Hatton Gardens robber pensioners, Peaky Blinders are all portrayed on UK telly. We love a white male anti hero who's a bit of a wrongun, like Gene Hunt from Life on Mars. Same, if not worse, in the US.

No offence, but if you argue in real life with family like you do on here then I wouldn’t be surprised if you have a hard time convincing them of anything.
That said, and despite me thinking you’re talking shiiiiit, it’s sad that you feel this way and feel you have to leave your own country for your own safety.

Too many brown people for your liking Devon?

This poll is just a reflection of how uninformed the British public are on ‘illegal immigration’.
That it’s only 19% that know there’s much more legal immigration than illegal shows how badly our education system has failed, and how effective the propaganda from the media and political class has been.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Quite, Higher Education and sectors like care are hugely reliant in legal migration. In fact Universities have built their business models on selling more expensive courses to foreign students in order to keep domestic student's fees down to lifetime of debt levels.
Down with that sort of thing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And this is what facks me off about the whole immigration debate, the people that have manufactured an economic system that is heavily reliant on immigration for it to function are then scapegoating the very immigrants they rely on.
And the very people that are being conner into blaming immigration for the problems in the country have actively enabled this economic model for decades.

There's a US version of HIGNFY with Roy Wood Jnr started recently. Wonder how long that'll last. Oh and yes UK HIGNFY is still going strong 60 odd (i think) seasons in.

Both the US and UK are missing a common sense strong leader, that would start to help a bit, especially in the US. The Democrats are literally rudderless right now with zero leadership whatsoever and it sounds like Starmer, despite being in power is pretty wishy washy and allowing the morons like farage to dictate the rhetoric.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thats the US system though, no opposition leader until the general election, no shadow ministers, nothing, just
House committees. Pretty daft imo.

You will never be able to win with certain people. If you have a problem with immigration, regardless of the reasoning, you are a racist to them and if you have a problem with the woke ideology, you are a sexist/transphobic bigot.
