Robb that's true but then I find it rather depressing that the only reason people would live with morals is because of a belief in God. I'm a good person because I want to be.

Religion does not say there is no place for you in this world. If you choose not to believe then that's your choice.
I think you'll find it was going on a LONG time before oil came into the equation Jay

That was my point. If oil as pretty much an essential commodity had been around and used prior to around 300 years ago, we'd have likely had more wars to do with it.

Agreed, TRC. I'm not even religious, but comments such as that are ridiculous.
Rob, that's a good point actually.
I don't know the statistics but I'd hazard a guess that there are more suicides in countries that has less followers of religion, for example.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You're just making stuff up now, without a shred of proof or evidence.
Go & grab some statistics, then we can talk again.
No one needs religion in their life, they are told they do and it then becomes to many the only thing that matters which is incredibly depressing.
------
What about people who convert in later life and by doing do find solace and a peace in life they didn't have previously? Or what about someone who finds religion and reforms to become a better person due to it?
Your sentence is far to blinkered, I'm not religious but what you said above is simply not true
MU82 might be able to help but as far as i'm aware, Buddhism is Japan's biggest religion but the majority don't really practice religion as much as other countries do.
I also think that there are more suicides in Japan than anywhere else.

It's nigh on impossible to quantify if Religion has been responsible for more deaths then Illness etc. The stats simply are not there or are not accurate enough to be proof.
What is true is that it has led to a huge amount of wars though, but again religion and religious extremism are two different things.
If I was back at school, I wouldn't be bothered whatsoever, even with me being a Christian.
I believe the Science argument more than the faith arguments though as God is supposedly here there and everywhere and yet this world isn't perfect. If he created us, then why should we suffer, feel pain, have bad emotions etc? I just don't understand that.
But on the Islamic side, I think it would be beneficial for children to learn about different cultures rather than just Christianity and their beliefs and the Science argument.

Rob, yeah I've also heard similar statistics about Scandinavia.

religions are responsible for more deaths in history than any illness or a natural cause. Fact

War is inevitable among the human race, and it always will be. It's a form of population control - it happens almost naturally for us.
I'm quite 'anti-religion' but this argument about religion being the cause of so many wars is flawed. If religion wasn't around we would have fought over something else, and just as many people would have dies in the long run. That's a fact.

The religious argument is that God gives people free-will, many religions regard it as a test of faith.

So basically what you're saying is, if there was no God and no law, you WOULD go around and rape people.
Let's get one thing straight. I don't believe in God. I DO rape as much as I want... which is not at all.
