"One cannot be completely religious without being an extremist."
--------------------------------
well, that didnt come out rite.
All religions looks down upon other religions. They all believe their faith is the one true faith and all others go to hell. This is total opposite to equality.
Mostsensiblereligious peopleignore these parts in their religion and take only the good but anyone can use the religion literary and use it for extremist purposes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
add to that. People who use religious quotes by the letter and use them for extremist purposes are not wrong according to their religion.
How anyone can take the bible as the word of God is beyond me, a book written by men, then edited by the men in power to suit their agenda, then re re edited by the next person / people in power and this trend continues for centuries.
-------------------------
I feel that is an extremely silly thing to say when religion is about faith. But if you prefer to state facts do so from an informed point of view by educating yourself on the subject which you clearly haven't given your cliche

I hope people don't confuse Christianity with religion.
Religious people crucified Jesus because he was a non-conformist. The UK and other Western nations only became great because of the activities of the protestants. Schools, hospitals, Universities, Red Cross, Orphanages etc were set up by Christians who followed the teachings of Jesus. Yale, Cambridge, Oxford, Princeton & Harvard were primarily set up and built by Christians. Democracy and human dignity as we know it today came off Christians of old. Many studies have tried to look at what made Britain great - the conclusions: Christianity. Even in America, google the "Old Deluder Satan Act" and you will find the role of Christianity in the modern world.
You need to study what the world was like before Christianity became influencial to appreciate it. And that also will tell you what the nation would be like if we give up our christian heritage. You don't have to see God to believe he exist just like a lot of other stuff we can't see but believe in their existence.
And if you think Christianity is bad, look at other countries who have majority non Christian population. Would you like to live there? Japan sent emisaries to the UK in the 19th century to study her secret. Though not a Christian nation, they applied the principles of the Christian West. See South Korea/N Korea. Like Jesus said, do not cast your pearl before swine or they will trample on it and turn on you. Meaning .....you won't know the value of youe society until you loose it.
It's very rare for an article about football to reach this amount of comments so quickly, especially one not even multi boarded.
For me, I've always considered religion to be a personal belief and entirely up to the individual. For some reason, everyone always feels compelled to say their own personal feelings about it whenever the topic is raised.
I feel that is an extremely silly thing to say when religion is about faith. But if you prefer to state facts do so from an informed point of view by educating yourself on the subject which you clearly haven't given your cliche
-----------------------------
That was a completely reasonable thing for him to say. If we were talking about faith that would be another thing. But we're talking about religion, large parts of which people base on everything that is written in an ancient document. Therefore, questioning the credibility of said document is a very sensible and logical thing to do.

But you statement insinuated that without religion those laws wouldn't have existed....
----------------------------------------------------------------------
yeah if we need laws just make good ones, why bother with religions? If we have spent our time thinking about good laws instead of something that has no evidence whatsoever the legal system must have been much better now.

So explain the ever growing number of Christians who literally take the Bible as the word of God? Explain the belief in Creationism, that Adam and Eve shared the Garden of Eden with Dinosaurs 6000 years ago.
Explain why some groups hate Gay people due to 1 line written in the Bible and insist they are right as this is the word of God?
Explain how God wrote this book through his followers yet it has been dramatically edited over centuries, explain why the people in power at the time chose to remove certain books the Bible.
Explain, Explain Explain, don't say I don't understand when I've have written examples even giving the name of a church in my example.
I agree Darren.
