Which is why at the very start of this thread I said the belief in God is MORE LOGICAL than the belief that the Universe sprung from nothing.

Einstein/Newton had no explanation of how matter/energy was created. However Hawking is showing that it is possible.

So in 50 years time I am sure that it can be scientifically proven.....

Well that's where the whole idea of "the nature of God" comes from. The whole idea of him being above and beyond everything else. He does not need to have sprung from anywhere because he is not of this world.

The real answer is that no one knows. But religion is definitely not the answer.

I am in the camp for religion but the advancement of science as historically been hampered by science.

True Christianity existed a 1000 years before Wilberforce but you must realise the society then need a certain level of momentum to bring about such monumental change. Also, up until the edict of toleration, Christians were largely targeted and murdered by Rome. So, its influence really started to gain momentum when men like Martin Luther, John Knox began the reformation in Europe.

Reading these comments it appears that some people don't actually know what religion is.

They also don't appear to realise that not every decision made under religious rule is influenced by religion itself.

Because there would be no concept of time. If time is infinite, then measuring it, or recording it is pointless.

It's not about proving or disproving. It's as about as clear as daylight. If you look at the sea, would you expect waves to appear without the wind? Would you expect a TV to run without electricity?

If god was all powerful and loving then why does god let evil exists?
If god was all powerful and lets evil exist then how is god all loving?
If god was all loving and lets evil exist then how is god all powerful?

Yeah, I think I've got it covered thanks. So, just to clarify. You think, that scientists that were forced to take their work underground and work unaided in any way, due to religion, for hundreds of years, were better off for it because it somehow focussed them more.
