Answer the fooking question bible bashers
Why do you believe in God ?

posted on 28/11/13

That is the failure of Christianity.I could make a claim tomorrow that someone was the son of God.But I would be laughed at because it can now be documented that no evidence would exist for my claim.Yet you are willing to believe a story written a couple of thousand years ago by people who were not even contemporaries of Jesus.
===================================
Yet more level of ignorance. Someone just didn't turn up and claimed to be son of God and somehow the mass followed. Use common sense mate

There is nothing to prove God exists and nothing to prove God does not exist.

I follow science and what can be seen, but the more we see the more we see how small a chance there is of our existence on this earth.

None of what I believe in has been pushed on me by my parents, school or friends (I feel fortunate for that), I read small snippets of the science pages news here and there, and the more people discover things about the world and universe, the more you think how can it be possible

The greatest travesty today is the belief that Christianity is anti science.
Despite mostly all early scientists being christians themselves. I mean guys like Copernicus, Isaac Newton, Galileo Galilee, Francis Bacon etc.
Also, most modern scientific concepts were lifted from the bible,. For example, surrogacy came through Jesus story. Anaesthasia came from Adam and Eve etc. I can go on and on but its time to head home now.

So what is your point? That Christianity founded the western world? And is only a means for good?

Am not advocating any beliefs but just stating facts about our past.
You check what I have claimed and refute them if you think they are lies.

Because we don't understand things people dream up things. The Aztecs, Incas worshipped sun and moon gods etc. They built pyramids with a staircase to be nearer their gods and sacrificed humans as other civilisations al so did. It's the same still to a degree. People now know the earth is round, understand astronomy better and science evolves but the fairy tale book still has a great hold be it the Bible, Koran , Tora etc etc

Rather than answer that question directly, what are the negatives in me believing Jesus is the son of God?
The positives I can list if you want me to...

-----------------

Once again, individually, I have no issue and I'm sure there is no negative.

What is the positive of teaching children they will go to hell if they don't do x,y and z? What is positive about the church being a tax exempt institution? I could go on and on
-----------------------------
I agree with you on religion being and individual choice.

Again growing up I remember the pastor talking about hell and damnation and being more scared than ever when I read the book of revelations.
Both on reflection all it did was set very clear boundaries black/white good/bad. Obviously with maturity I now know the world is not so simple.

Ancient Greece were advanced in Philosophy.
Can you name any modern invention from Ancient Greece which did not come from the monastary?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ancient Greeks knew earth is round which is far more scientifically advanced than any quote from bible or any holy book. their religion may have assists its development but Its not Christianity the reason for modern science as you claim

Science has not given people enough reason to not believe in God as science it yet to discover 99.9% of our universe. So many unanswered questions that religions can provide explanations/answers.
