Here's a good story; my mother (a Catholic) was mocking MIT Romney for being a Mormon, after all how could anybody believe aliens came down to earth and created Mormonism? Deer me they even think Jesus visited American.
I then pointed out that her faith was based upon nothing more than an old novel, ie. the bible, what us more credible, aliens or one all powerful being?
I like to think any Christian who can withstand effect of recent anti religious attitude is strong minded. Maybe it's just me
-------------------------
couldn't agree more
In today's society it is easier to not be a Christian.
Yes, blind faith to a thing you've never seen, nor has anybody else for that matter, faith in a concept full of contradictions, faith in a concept aimed to control the masses, why can't you think for yourself?
===================================
This is the view from your side. Have you ever thought of the view from the other side? I would make you understand religion a bit more.
It takes a brave person to take a step without knowing what's there. That's faith
"Yes, blind faith to a thing you've never seen"
-----
Where did I say I had BLIND faith?
I don't pretend to know all the answers, but just because I don't know doesn't mean I immediately go "Nope. Not possible"
As yet nobody has put forward any sort of credible argument as to who created this all powerful being?
Where did he come from?
Id say foolhardy not brave.

society is heading in the right direction
I have been very interested in religion from a very
Young age.
I have studied it and learned a lot.
I see people have a lot of questions about it and
about God, if he exists.
I believe I have found answers to much of the
questions asked here; I just doubt whether that
people really care about knowing the answers.
If they did they would be looking for answers too.
If someone were to publish a book on answers to
these questions, would you read it with an open
mind?

Sure, but like it or not it has relevance to the world we live in, simply because it exists and it has so much impact on world affairs. I can actually see the benefit as long as it's strictly factual and helps them understand where people are coming from.

It's good to be exposed to many things in life, it broadens your mind and gives you a bigger base to eventually develop your own thoughts
An all knowing god basically decided everything when he set the earth up.
----
So if our futures are pre-ordained, if God already knows who goes to Heaven and who goes to Hell, what's the point of our existence?
Screen the thing is so many people believe the fairy tales that they are a fairly major part of humanity.
Religion may not have started as such but certainly In Europe religion was used to keep the masses down on behalf of the rich and powerful.

yup, Not that different to buying a car without knowing the configurations, limitations and not testing it before buying
Also people don't just become/stay religious as a result of reading the Bible. Life experience plays a big part.
Samir very little I guess, except maybe the joy of going through it?
Just to point out I don't believe in god but I am just saying what the logical conclusions from an all knowing God are....
I find it incredibly amusing that most of the insults are coming from the 'non-believers'. I thought a lack of religion was meant to make you more tolerant.
In answer to the OP I have two boys at primary school, and I think it's a good thing to study other faiths, it'll help them understand the world they live in and relate to people from other cultures better and hopefully be more tolerant.
Whether they choose to believe it's anything other than fairy stories dreamt up to keep the general population down is up to them, I'd hope they're too smart to get taken in.

I agree with screen and would like to have my children thought RE. For many children it is there first true exposure to other religions. If nothing else it will serve to educate them as to why others might behave they way they do.
I haven't seen any insults, seems a fair minded debate to me

Fair enough. I'm Muslim myself, but I'm very open minded. I support Islam as a sytem, but always question Islam and the paradox of God's existence is something that will forever remain a mystery to me, but I hope one day I do get the answers I want.
