Torres 100%.
He was captaining Atletico and starting for Spain at 19 years old.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agree. We also competed with Utd for his signature when they were at their peak, not the shambles of today.
I would absolutely have Suarez in there as well. He was scoring at a ludicrous rate for Ajax (49 in 48 games the season before we signed him), had CL experience, was scoring at a really decent rate for Uruguay. The world knew how good Suarez was.
VVD as well. CB aren't often seen as generational talents but there was a reason we paid a world record for a defender and had to beat City to his signature.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Great shout on VVD - we were up against City for him too.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, VVD was a coup.
But as for Torres, no chance, if one of the big clubs were going for him at the time, Barca or Bayern, then he would have never come to us.
We took a gamble on Torres and it paid off massively.

Defo thiago. Just come off the treble at bayern and had established himself as 1 of the best in the world at what he did.
I remember rooney doing an interview when we signed him saying the other teams might as well not bother turning up. He felt like that "missing piece".
Such a shame we lost the 3 cbs that season. What might have been.

Awful signing

Mbuemo to United wasn’t what I expected. Newcastle maybe, but what a waste to move there of all teams. Newcastle would have been perfect in a front 3 with Isak and Gordon. Must have offered a lot of money to him.

United level player. Doesn't really have the tek against low blocks and more of a transition player.

I thought Utd were struggling with PSR? Dropping £60m on Cunha and following up with what I assume will be £50m+ on Mbuemo doesn’t sound like a club struggling with PSR.

Francois Plateau last night (not sure on his reliability)
🚨 Liverpool have advanced in talks today over Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, and aim to complete the signing of both players this week.
A third — and what’s expected to be a final — bid for Wirtz is expected on Tuesday/Wednesday: both clubs believe German international will join the Merseyside club for what could be a British transfer record. Player has been clear from the start: he only wants Liverpool, despite interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester City.
An official bid for Kerkez is imminent; talks with Bournemouth progressed well after the player gave the green light to #LFC weeks ago.
