It’s not just transport that is the issue. The mass production of manufacturing has a massive carbon footprint.

My understanding is that it’s one of the most damaging industries. Obviously there’s a lot of other cheap craaap that is damaging as well.
It’s a lifestyle issue. Cheap clothes aren’t a problem in themselves, but the waste is incredible. The material culture in the west that drives this industry is a major problem.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
About 35% of all fabric produced for clothing ends up as waste before a garment is bought thanks largely to (purposeful) overproduction and inefficient (but cheap) cutting techniques.
Then consider that in the UK, for example, up to a third of the garments in women’s wardrobes have never been worn.

Most definitely. The outsourcing of manufacturing to Asia is facking up the planet.
I wonder what’s going to happen with the games, film and tv industry. With everything becoming digital is there really any need for mass production of plastic products? To West at least.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
there's still a huge market for physical media.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don’t think there needs to be, though. I know lots of people that like to have physical media just because. Takes up space that could be put to better use.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What people choose do with their space is their business.
Plus streaming only works with an Internet connection. Physicals don't require that.
Of course, that was just an aside.
Obviously internet is required, but that’s an infrastructure that could - and should - be heavily invested in to reduce the need for all these plastics.

Are all the scientists a part of these conspiracies, or have they just been fooled by people smarter than them but not quite as smart as you?

Right, so let me try again then...you're not denying the problem, just saying the system's been rigged to make Joe Public think it's his fault while corporations and governments make a killing without actually doing anything (or anywhere remotely near enough) to solve the problem?
If that's your position, then I don't disagree.
That said, it's also been up to us all along to vote for stronger governance rather than lower taxes. If we've been equally greedy, then as a society it's been as much our fault as it has been our leaders'.

Firstly, thankyou for finally talking rather than mocking
Secondly, i recently turned 54 but stopped voting in my mid-20's when i realised that ultimately it's irrelevant. Red/Blue are two sides of the same coin so there is no ''stronger governance'' available however much we wished there were.
We are all being pushed in one direction whether we like it or not. And sadly it isn't one one that benefits us, the people.
Strong governance will never ever come to the rescue bud. That 'aint the game.
Ok, I'm sorry I misunderstood your opening post.
I get where you're coming from, but those aren't the only options in my eyes. I live in a country that generally requires coalition governments, so I can cast a vote for a fringe party in the hope that they will be able to sway some policies towards the changes I'd like to see made.
But even in the UK, there's been ample evidence in recent years of severe cracks in the traditional two-party system. Political change is painfully slow, but not entirely impossible. And it also makes sense that a lot of people are reluctant to change, because there's probably never been an era quite like the second half of the 20th century in terms of the material comforts large swathes of the population have enjoyed.
The average joe wanting lower taxes isn't greed. Its wanting to have some semblance of a life. Should corps be paying more? Absolutley.
From a British perspective would there be much change climate policy wise from tory to Labour?
I don't think so. There's only so much than can be done. And that's not praise of the tory Party at all.
Call it greed, or call it short-sightedness, we've only got ourselves to blame for largely dismantling the welfare system.
You say there's only so much that can be done, but think for a moment of the impact all those voters who stayed home might've had if they'd been voting Green for the past 40 or 50 years. Think of the impact they might've had if Labour had truly been forced into seeking climate solutions, of the synergies that Green parties across Europe might've created if all the environmentally-conscious voters had come together in the 80s or 90s, when Germany's Greens were the only environmental-political force amongst Europe's largest democracies, of what might have been done if Europe's massive research potential had been harnessed to find solutions yesterday to today's problems.
