If half of that is true T-BAG then I am suprised that he hasnt been stripped of captaincy long before.

Yep. I'm always wary of believing everything you read because it could easily just be coming from a club mouthpiece, but it's an interesting read nonetheless.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunners/comments/rgu320/lacazette_expected_to_retain_arsenal_captaincy/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

It's an Athletic article, so I can't link it directly but someone has pasted the content into the Reddit comments. It actually says about his fans around the club, not squad, questioning his captaincy.

Some interesting stuff there though
----------------------------------------------------------------------

But that says some in the club. That could be PR department or Arteta's coaches.

"Aubameyang is a very popular figure in certain quarters of the club, but even among those who admire him, there have been questions over his suitability for the captaincy. "

There is nothing that its the players. And as the captaincy is about the players respect for him, thats all that should matter. And actually thats what I see as the huge problem Arteta now has. Because its easy to lose the dressing room. I don't mean they won't play for him. But if they fear that being late after visiting you mum is sufficient to get on Arteta's wrong side, I am not sure its a dressing room they want to stay in if offered a way out to another club.

I think Arteta lost the dressing room ages back. Only young guys have been performing since they want to prove themselves. Experienced pros have had enough of his inept quality

Yeah that's exactly what I pointed out when I posted the link.

We have a lot of new young players. We need to protect them and give them the impression that the club will protect their image. If they fear any problem will be made public and called out, why would they want to stay?

Which is why Wenger always protected his players in public. Do you what you need to do in private and if it gets too much quietly sell the player - eg Penant, but don't destroy their career by playing fan PR games.

Martinelli, ESR, Saka, Balogun all signed new contracts.

Well yeah. Other clubs were not interested in giving them the money we did because only we knew their potential. But thats not a secret anymore, after achieving England honours and having great performances in the premier league, they are in huge demand now. Its a completely different situation.

Which is why things like working conditions matter and disciplinary matters should be kept behind close doors. Not announced to the world.

I think that's idealistic though, if you leave Auba out then people are gonna ask questions and it's gonna get leaked anyway. Why not get ahead of it and take control of the narrative? The players might like Auba but they'll still be looking at him and wondering how he's the captain when he keeps breaking the rules

How is it idealistic m8. Its the policy of every business and protected by employment law.

It was easy to do I suggested yesterday. Keep it quiet. And then suggest to Auba that we want to take the captaincy away but don't want it to hurt you image. So give him an option to step down. And if threatens to leave, give him an option to quietly leave the club.

This is was not a case like Xhaka's reaction to the fans where you had to make it public to placate the fans.

I just don't think you could have kept it quiet. It would have been obvious to so many people around huge amount of people employed at the club and it would have gotten out.

Gotten out that Auba chose to step down? Any excuse, for example he has to keep on visiting his sick mum. So pressures of captaincy is too much. Better than embarrassing him publicly. Now we are a laughing stock and Auba is public enemy.

If arteta had lost the squad, they wouldve stopped trying for him on the pitch. It's fairly simple

No. Players play for the club not the manager.

This will have an impact in the future if Arteta remains and we start getting huge offers for our top players.

No they stopped listening to him. That started to lead to poor results.

Yeah there's numerous examples of players for big clubs not playing for the manager, despite the club.

Either he still has the backing of the squad or he's brought in so many young players and giving them a break at a club like Arsenal, that they're absolutely gonna grind to prove they can play at a top club.

posted on 15/12/21

I dare you to go any player and ask him if they 'stop trying'. They do their best. But when the manager stops having an affect on what they do on the pitch its time for a new voice in the dressing room.

It's more likely they're confused by him. You'd also be seeing a lot of reports being leaked about how the squad has lost faith in him, the media always knows when a manager has lost his squad.
