Have we ever had a minutes silence for a non-football person ability at a football match before?

For the Queen's mother, I think that was the last time.

If the FA do sanction this then every football fan throughout the land should do nothing but boo and/or sing for the entire minute.

A minute`s cheering at her demise might be a bit more appropriate. I doubt the people she so callously threw on the dole queues in the 80s and ruined their lives for ever will be observing any minute`s silence.

I really cannot see any reason to give a minute`s silence for somebody who called the hard working people of this country, the enemy within, whilst praising the polish unions. Who called Nelson Mandela a terrorist, despite the man sacrificing 30 years of his life to give his people their ultimate freedom. And who cosied up to General Pinochet, who terrorrised and torchered his own political prisoners.

Her departing this earth will not be mourned by me.

I think you will find it's the "Queen mother (god bless her)", legal obligation to use the bracketed attachment to her name don't you know.

I was at WHL on the day of Winston Churchill`s funeral in 1964, and I think it was marked with a minute`s silence. But then he defeated the tyranny of Nazism, Thatcher only defeated hard working people of our industries.

Either way, only the monarchy and influential figures from the footballing world should be honoured with the minute's silence. It would be pointless holding one for Thatcher, it'd never be successful.

politics and football dont mix like two diiiiccks and no chicks

Politicians tend to get very little respect from football crowds.

I remember going to an England game in the early 1980s when Willie Whitelaw, the then home secretary, was the FA guest of honour. We all started singing:

Willie Whitelaw, Willie Whitelaw
then he stood up and waved and we all sang:
Who the f...ing hell are you, Who the f...ing hell are you

He sat down rather quickly then.

Thatcher never killed people, she wasn't a tyrant, dictator etc.

a bit of respect towards the dead wouldn't go a miss.

Do you have any idea how many good hard working people commited suicide under her watch in the 80s? She was one horrible biiiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttttch, who cared not one iota about the working class people of this country, so WTF should we all be expected to mourn her passing.

She would have had my respect, if she actually respected the communities she single-handedly destroyed.

"she wasn't a tyrant", really?

Well the definition of tyrant is...

1. An absolute ruler who governs without restrictions.
2. A ruler who exercises power in a harsh, cruel manner.
3. An oppressive, harsh, arbitrary person.

Certainly ticks the boxes.

Stop trotting out this tripe. Someone posted the figures the other day that showed you were completely wrong about the marked increase in suicide rates under her tenure. It was something like a 5% difference between previous years, and less than some other years!
