I have no idea if the Western Isles and Shetland want independence, but if they do they are more than welcome to go for it.
They are no doubt aware however that as they are not a country and have no history of being a country, they would only be entitled to waters within 15 miles of their coast under international laws.
I wonder how much oil is within 15 miles of their coast?
We'll ending fighting the Irish.

IE, I think international law clearly shows that we will end up with 90% of the oil in British waters. Even the British government aren't disputing that.
