focus on the simplistic nationalistic drum banging

Do you think that's one sided chief? Feck me, there's pro-British nationalist drum banging (or should that be flute playing?) going on too.

I'm not saying everyone is sitting at home reading up on things on the internet, but you'd be surprised at how many are. People want to be engaged, people want to have the information and since no one else is giving it to us we go out and look for it.

And then what happens is that the people who are looking up the information, your average, working class man, goes into the pubs and clubs and workplaces (and dare I say jobcentres and foodbanks) up and down the country and pass on what they've found. They tell their pals, their colleagues, their wives, their husbands, their kids. And the message spreads, the facts spread, the knowledge spreads.

I don't know if you're aware of how condescending you're coming across here, but you're certainly coming across as someone who is entirely out of touch with what's happening up here.

Of course there is drum banging on both sides. That is equal part of the problem. Don't misunderstand me, if Scotland votes itself out, it makes no difference to my life, but as an interested party, I just hope that the votes are based on rational thinking and solid information, not just flag waving and name calling.

We're not allowed to fire our nuclear weapons without the Americans say so
....................

Really? First I've heard of such a directive. If thats the case, why are we thinking of spending 10x the NHS budget on bombs we're not allowed to fire...weird!

I read the link but it isn't as black and white as the link makes out.

I pray it is right, means I would have a career here till I retire yet the realisation is that Oil and Gas in the North Sea is a bit volatile to say the least.

Every company up here has had massive cuts, Taqa, Centrica, Baker Hughes, WoodGroup etc. Cheveron has just got rid of all its graduates, a huge intake of students who were promised a job have been let go.

Shell is progressively leaving, as is BP. Every large project I know about is vastly over budget and vastly over schedule. Its a pretty bleak time to be an engineer here.

Some of the largest oil fields left (like the Kraken) are ridiculously hard to mine due to poor geographical structure and aromatic molecular structures.

Plus with health and safety/green initiatives making projects ridiculously over budget it is becoming tough to maintain a profit. Especially when it is so much easier to produce oil in Africa/Middle East.

Calzy

(If I had the vote) I'd be minded to vote Yes, I just hate the Nat's assumption that we're going to get everything our own way through negotiations that Salmond thinks will take 18months but the UK govt reckon will take up to 5 years.

It's fantasy to think everything in the garden will be rosy in a fortnights time, I'm not encourage by some on here.

But nobody actually thinks that. Independence isn't a cure-all for all of society's ills & it will by no means be perfect. But it's an opportunity to make things better, one we simply do not have within the UK.

Perhaps it's the cost we have to pay with being the 53rd state or whatever we are now.
..................

54th when we get independence.

Swapping London for Brussels/Washington.

Why bother?

As was said earlier, this is the most switched on that the Scottish population have possibly ever been, with an estimated 80% turnout. So it's not all flag waving and name calling.

The issue with the whole situation is the No campaign is run by fücking morons who should all be fired on the spot no matter what the outcome, and the Yes campaign is full of lies. That being said Salmond is running a good campaign. Had it been the other way around I dont think the outcome would be anywhere near this close.

Of course it could go wrong, but at least then it'd be our fault rather than letting others make mistakes for us. I just think the best people to make decisions about Scotland are those living in Scotland.

I guess it is a bit of a generalisation ginger, but not a wholly inaccurate one. Surely anyone can see that Darling is doing an embarrassing job, and Salmonds comparisons of an independent Scotland to Norway are wrong.

Things may not be better immediately

But when we go into the next election we will be voting alongside other people who want the best for Scotland.

Rather than the satus quo where we are voting alongside folk who are simply voting for whatever politician promises to keep the most darkies out.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Or the ones who are not voting due to the fact they feel their vote is useless.
