Am I the only one that doesn’t find Monty Python funny?!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I thought it was very funny when I was about 18. Now I'm much more ambivalent. I think Life of Brian stands up reasonably well, because it has a consistent focus (and Michael Palin's facial expressions in the 'Biggus Dickus' scene are objectively very funny) but everything else I find quite self-indulgent.

For me, a lot depends on what’s going on and who you’re with when you first see the film, but I have soft spots for (in no particular order):
Tropic Thunder
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Robert Downey Jr fecking legendary in that flick

I used to get annoyed when friends suggested it to me as I tried to watch it once and found it stupid but then I realised that was the whole point and there is actually hidden intelligence to much of it.
I think they're geniuses. Fawlty Towers is also my favourite show of all time. John Cleese is outstanding.

Wider point: most of the films I can think of that make you laugh out loud every few seconds I'd struggle to describe as great films per se. Is there a difference between funniest film (i.e. vehicle for gags) and a really good film with funny moments? I love most of the Coen Brothers output, for instance but (Lebowski excepted) I find the pure comedies way inferior to the darker films, and the deadpan humour of the latter stays with me much more.

Pulp Fiction?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's a good shout. Also love the snippets of comic dialogue in many of Scorsese's films that are otherwise definitely not comedies. E.g. the fish dialogue in The Irishman in the car with Hoffa's son, who doesn't know his father is about to be murdered.

Thats what I think, it is pure genius
ha, if we're already down to eurotrip, then i should add

rushmore and the royal tenenbaums

his girl friday
i even find werner herzog drily hilarious (eg bad lieutenant), and laughed out loud a couple of times during stroszek, but most people disagree (including ian curtis apparently)

Yeah, this is fair. From Dusk Til Dawn I find pretty funny.
Carlos: So, what, were they psychos, or...
Seth: Did they look like psychos? Is that what they looked like? They were vampires. Psychos do not explode when sunlight hits them, I don't give a f*ck how crazy they are! ”

My favourite line was "I was in 'nam"
Haven’t read back through the full thread but I watched anger management again the other day
That has some classic scenes in and jack nicholson steals the show
It’s the only Adam sandler film i can stomach ….not a fan at all
Holy grail and life of Brian are fantastic too
Horrible bosses 1 &2 are very funny as well
oh, and election is a superb film
South Park his a good example of something clever masquerading as something silly.
‘Everybody be cool - YOU, be cool’
Great line.
Confess I quite enjoy the work of Jay and Silent Bob. Mainly for the fact that Jay's character comes across as totally authentic.

On further consideration, I realised the only answer to Robb's question is The Big Lebowski

Took 3 pages of comments, but finally got there.
Delicatessen, as DDD said, is a great dark comedy.
I love some of the old Jacques Tati stuff, Mon Oncle in particular is an absolute masterpiece.

It’s a great subversion of his Ferris Bueller character.

Oh, and I must be one of the few people who barely finds Will Ferrell funny. 21st century Chevy Chase.
I must have mentioned at least 60 movies, didnt realise there were so many good comedies. Can you imagine, not have seen many of the movies listed here. You now have enough movies to watch for the entire 2022 and laugh your balls off for most of the time.
Not sure if it’s suppose to be funny but I find the dialogue in both the hateful eight and django witty and amusing
The ending of Once Upon a time in Hollywood cracks me up every time.
