On that note, Carter Burwell has made some fantastic musical scores.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
which reminds me that being john malkovich - which might be his favourite score of mine - is a brilliant film, which could be considered a comedy (as could adapatation and eternal sunshine, which are even better)
Watched Being John Malkovich on general release, haven't seen it again since. Might be time to rewatch. Didn't realise the music was Burwell's too. He's incredibly prolific.
Watched in the cinema, that snow plough scene at the beginning of Fargo is immense, and the music is such a big part of that. I love the Miller's Crossing score too.
Sheet, just realising it's ages since I've been to a cinema.
Oh, and someone mentioned Laurel and Hardy earlier. Good shout. They were fabulous.
To go back to Shaun of the Dead. I also liked Hot Fuzz and The World's End too.
One I don't think has been mentioned is Ghostbusters. Not laugh a minute but plenty of good gags in there.
I have an irrational hatred of Ghostbusters. Never seen it, but the theme song was totally inescapable and it completely did my nut.

How have you never seen that film? It’s like saying you’ve never eaten chocolate or seen a sunrise.

You see, you gave props to Laurel and Hardy, so you can’t be all bad, but you are doing your best to Fack it all up.
Now go watch Ghostbusters, and just watch comic timing at its very best.

To be fair, I wouldn't bother watching it. Thought it was awful as a kid and saw it again last year and thought it was just as bad then.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's probably one of those flicks that links some people back to their childhood or adolescence. I was about 16 when it was released and it definitely felt like it was one for the babies.

The Goonies does that for me. Loved it as a kid. Didn't like it at all as an adult. I still like Ghostbusters though!

Yes Babies. Quite.
Then you see a ghost about to give Ray a BJ…
Napoleon Dynamite is a quality comedy
Jay and Silent Bob strike back
Goonies was another that made me cringe. Though I did manage Gremlins, which I recall was fairly entertaining.
At that time I was more into more indy/arty kind of stuff which my brother and his girlfriend introduced me to. I was more concerned with trying to act grown up, so I was very heavily prejudiced against mainstream films for kids and teens.

Yes it is
east is east is very good, and refreshingly unpreachy (disappointing sequel though)
recently rewatched rita, sue and bob too, which was very good
obviously gregory's girl deserves a mention
and am i the only one who finds peter greenaway films pretty funny (eg drowning by numbers?)
and billy liar is a terrific film
Agree on East Is East.
Never watched any Greenaway, but I've always heard it can be a bit hard to get your head around some of his stuff. Where would you recommend starting?
