Higgins has been awful this season, I wonder how much he's being paid

The commentators mentioned something about Higgins playing with a new cue all season, trying to possibly make that an excuse for him? Don't agree with that.

One, he's a professional snooker player and should be able to play with a wooden spoon never mind a proper cue.

And two, if he's been playing with it all season, surely he's used to it by now?

To be fair, I don't think that Higgins has made any excuses and has given Davis credit for the win. Sometimes when a top player gets beat, in any sport, commentators will look to reasons as to why that player has lost rather than simply give credit to the opponent.

Higgins has mentioned his age and it is probably becoming a factor. He's been winning tournaments since his late teens, and he's also had a lot of hard matches over the years - probably the best player at winning when not playing well, but that must have some effect after a number of years. He's not past it, but he will probably become a little more inconsistent and there's only one way for hin to go.

Before people compare him to Ronnie, I think Ronnie is a totally different kettle of fish - the style of Ronnie's play, I don't think takes much out of him, and I doubt that many matches have taken a lot out of Ronnie mentally. Ronnie could go on for a number of years, and is one of the few players where age is less of a factor - Higgins has probably taken a lot more out of himself (the best comparison I can come up with is that Ronnie is like Federer in terms of fitness and being able to last a bit longer, Higgins more like Nadal and probably won't have as prolonged a career as Federer)

Same old.

Higgins loses in the 1st round at 38 (he has been through a lot, 20 years of being at the top of the game takes it out of you, he gave credit to his opponent and also mentioned of course that his older opponent hasn't been at the business end of tournaments as ofter as he has)

Ronnie won the title at 37 last year - He should've won more, he'll never beat Hendry's records, he doesn't dedicate himself enough, blah, blah, blah

Not looking like any time soon then. Just turned it on been out this evening, watching Allen v King as that concludes tonight.

King in the balls in the 13th frame.

Few long frames between Allen and King. Allen leads 8-6 now.

Meanwhile on the other table Ali Carter has battled back from 3-1 down to level at 3-3 against Ben Woollaston.
