We have to extrapolate the benefits the vaccination roll out is bringing into these numbers. What we see now is nothing like what it will be in a short 2-3 weeks time.
Israel reporting that there’s 97% drop in numbers from people who have been vaccinated and that the vast majority of new cases; they are in the far younger generations who haven’t been vaccinated and still have the mentality that they’ll be a “bit ill” at worst.
We’ve vaccinated best part of 15 million which is around a quarter of the entire population and that number grows by the 100’s of 1,000’s every day.
It’s as positive as it can be and we have to stop the mentality of both the zero Covid strategy and that of keeping things shut down just in case a new one pops up.
Is number of cases still a relevant metric when majority of vulnerable have now been vaccinated?
Seems silly to continue with this after the vaccinations. Should surely be number of folk in hospital, assuming the vaccines work as intended
It’s a very difficult balancing act. Bojo knows that his gung ho approach backfired big time, so he is proceeding cautiously. It seems a sensible way forward to me.

The relevance for me comes from the numbers being tested which continues to grow day by day and now coupled with the recent surge testing will reveal even more cases.
And at last track and trace is now a far better proposition than it ever was.
All good as far as I’m concerned.
i think the death rate in care homes in Scotland has dropped by 73% or something since they started rolling out the vaccine

Has it? Great news if true.
What is a disgrace is the numbers catching it in hospitals. Even still now it’s by far the largest “contributor”.
I know a lot is out on that rate, but I wouldn’t say it’s the main one. To take it to an extreme, if they only carried out 10 tests and 5 were positive it would be a 50% positivity rate. That would take away from the fact that only 5 people were positive. Think sometimes both numbers need contextualised.
yeah of course but whilst we're still testing 15-20k a day then <5% positivity rate is what the WHO say has it as manageable level
anyway the whole of the UK numbers (apart from deaths) are starting to look a lot better
better than they could of imagined considering Feb/March 2021 was to be the absolute peak of the pandemic here

I’m not convinced about WHO recommendations. They’ve backtracked and changed their minds on practically everything.
I don’t have a major issue with that as like everyone else they are still learning. But I certainly wouldn’t be taking them as the oracle.
They’ve got to make sure they get this right when opening back up.
There simply cannot be another 3/4/5/6 week lockdown again.
Vaccine rollout doing well so if we just need another 4 weeks from now to get it all under control then say that, false hope is worse than anything.
I’d expect beer gardens will also be allowed to open in April which is wise but please for the love of god do away with the nonsense people need order substantial meals and help everyone support these businesses to get back to normal.
I think self employed businesses will open back up here middle to end of March (hairdressers etc)
Worrying that we'll only do 200k vaccines this week and maybe next up here however this won't have an effect on getting it to the people who need it most

I would certainly hope we'd never get to lockdown level ever again as it would mean
1) the vaccines don't work
2) the NHS is overwhelmed again

I hope so - I've got a Boris barnet going on up there
I'd open a pub called The Vaccinated Arms
they should open the pubs back up to fully vaccinated people, only fair

This is going to be the next major issue. Restaurants and pubs being asked to ensure only vaccinated people can get in. Same with holiday companies. Even shops are being discussed ffs.
Effectively still keeping everything “shut” until late autumn.

I think when pubs/restaurants open back we'll have a better idea of how effective the vaccine is and if it's as good as they think it'll probably be back to the way they were last year when they opened
book a slot
social distancing (maybe not)
details taken for track and trace

Agree, and you seem to be saying the same as me, the context will be important.
Similarly, using 1 day's numbers isn't the best way either.

One of the government ministers said they weren't against the idea of some kind of proof for holidays, etc, but that they were against the idea of it being necessary inside our own borders.
Do you think that public health will improve on the back of the last year or so
Less people willing to leave the house when they don't feel great, I mean how many times have people in offices been like 'Oh I'm not feeling great but not worth staying off for' then about a week later 4 or 5 people are off unwell
More hand washing and all round cleanliness
unforced social distancing

Yeah. Read that.
Just need to have a plan and start thinking about it now. Also it will depend on what other countries do.
