Only if those players are better than the established players at the squad, and better than scouted targets.

Non of the top teams use their academies as the primary source of recruitment for their squad. they all focus on transfer market to build their squad. Young player only get a chance if they are exceptionally talented.

Arsenal are the only top club that are actively trying to develop their youngsters rather than buy better established players, even they are deviating that policy recently

No body is slaughtering him for it. It is just one of Jose' cons to go against his pros. His record with young players, especially academy ones is not very good. It just isn't.

You are just upset that some of us have the sense to take into consideration Jose's faults as well as his success.

The easiest way to look at it is this

Barca in the previous decade promoted Valdes, Puyol, Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Messi, Pedro even a case for Pique to say he never really established himself fully at United before he did at Barca. Some of these players replaced Yaya, Ronaldinho Deco and the likes

We've come to a time when the Guardiola team is getting on a bit, how have they been replaced?

Valdes - not one but TWO keepers signed, no youngster in sight.
Alves - already signed his replacement in Vidal as well as signing Douglas a season or so ago, no young RB in sight.
Pique and Mascherano's first back up are Matthieu and when fit Vermaelen
Abidal/Maxwell replaced by Alba, a big signing and established player regardless of whether he came through Barca's academy 15 years ago. They have one of the most promising young Lbs in world football, do they use him? No, they persist with Adriano as back up.
Xavi leaves, do Thiago, Rafinha or Roberto become regulars? No. Rakitic is signed, Turan even ahead of those youngsters now. Roberto is a bit part utility player, finally has a role in the squad at 24 and that's all it really is. Rafinha had a bit more luck but even that was after having to go out on loans to show himself as a good la liga player.
Likes of Villa, Pedro etc start to move out, do they use Deulofeu? No they spend massive amounts on Neymar and Suarez. Turan comes in as back up. Sandro and Munir get the odd game but not anything like the trust in them that they had in Pedro when he first came through.

No one can argue that isn't a massive step backwards in youth development and promotion in favour of building the best possible team.

LSTD Surely you know that its not a conveyor belt of great youngsters, sometimes you get a group as at Barca and United and Douthampton if it comes to that, and sometimes few or none.

Rdd is in denial if he dosent see a big difference in both fergies and vgs philosophy toward and handling of academy players compared to joses, mainly because joses history shows academy players are not a priority with him.

In any case, IMO United fans shouldnt be demanding their manager to play youngsters, regardless of who becoming our next manager. The pressure and expectations at the club is too much to allow a gamble on untested youngsters. If we lucked out on an exceptional talent, he will be played regularly. otherwise established players will starting most of the matches.

The fact that LVG had to rely on 15 untested players within 18 months show utter lack of planning rather than any master stroke of a policy. We wont see anything close to that in any time soon

I do 52, but there is little to suggest that Barca aren't still producing quality youth whereas there's a lot more to suggest that they are looking to buy the best players they can

52 - I'm not supporting anyone. All.i have said is Jose does give young players a chance if they are good enough and gave examples. I asked in the OP if anyone can give examples of youth products Jose has failed to use to support the theory. Oddly, in 8 hours nobody has been able to do this.

I agree that Mourinho hasn't really brought through (m)any notable youth players that i can think of, and I can see that the likes of Zouma were not brought through from the academy so don't quite count.

But what Rdd is saying is that, if Mourinho's record is so poor, there should be a list of players he neglected at youth level who have now made it. This argument really could go on all night, because I'm not sure there is such a list - and Rdd looks as if he will just keep asking for it to make a point.

For what it's worth, this is one of my two major concerns with the idea of Mourinho as United manager. But how many top managers really do make youth a priority nowadays?

VC - it was me that raised the 'weighing up Joses pros and cons' point when people were claiming LvG is the better manager out of him and Jose because he hasnt been sacked this season
