How important is using youth actually though? Is it even a big deal?

With FFP rearing it's ugly head, a little more of a big deal than it used to be.

Withstanding that, I like to see a few players that you can point a finger at and say with pride, "We bought him through".

Brummie think you're over ambitious on the players he should have used, and forgetting that our other managers haven't seen anything in them to play them either...omeruo, Bamford, Kiwomya, Swift, Colkett, Van Ginkel especially. DaSilva is a 17 year old 5'3 LB so not a surprise he's not been used. Wallace can't actually play in England cause he can't get a work permit. Christensen played several times last season, this year the loan was 100% the right move he's benefitting massively. Bogs and Musonda are very young and have a lot of time on their hands, no need to rush them, same with Solanke and Brown. Loftus-Cheek should put some effort in before getting everything handed to him, can quite easily go the wrong way if he's given more game time without putting effort in on the pitch to deserve it, all well and good making the odd good run or pass, have to do the other side of the game too. People go on and on about him but Hiddink hasn't seen fit to do anything differently with him to Mourinho, yet is willing to give Traore a go and seemed willing with a fit again Kenedy at the weekend, speaks volumes for RLC imo

List is so much smaller than people are making out, Chalobah, Baker, Traore, Bertrand. That's where the issues lie.

Others simply not good enough or are young enough to not need throwing in at the deep end.

LSTD, that's a list of players that could be used - obviously not all would be. What I'm saying is you could pick two or three of the ones with the highest potential and slowly groom them for the 1st team.

Rather that than this farcical loan system which I loathe. One loan is acceptable but when it becomes loan after loan after loan it must affect a kids confidence and slowly erode their affinity to the parent club!

Fair enough, in the sense of giving one or two a chance I agree 100% although the loan system I'm not so anti myself.

If you forget about the players like Atsu, T.Hazard etc who are obviously just brought for profit the loan system has helped a fair few players out, Courtois and Christensen in particular and so far Musonda seems to be getting the benefit. Theres always going to be failures, don't think we have many more than other clubs, ours are just in the public eye because they are loans rather than players who sit in the reserves and don't get the level of football needed to go anywhere with their careers.

I do feel that a B team system like they have abroad is required though, it seems like as a club in general we are very much in favour of that and are probably sending so many out on loan in an attempt to show people that it's needed, U21s just isn't a good enough level for anyone to develop properly, most have stagnated at that level in all PL teams, the ones that have gone on loan like Kane and co have generally done better

I get what you are saying there. Even back in Jose's first stint he rarely if ever played the academy players in League Cup games and in the FA Cup against lesser opposion.

I hadn't forgot LSTD but the list was becoming long enough anyway and I doubt Atsu will make it at the top level any way.

The one I did forget is Tammy Abrahams who I think is pretty applicable to this debate. He's scoring bucket loads for the youth teams and is roughly the same age as Rashford.

When we went to Old Trafford earlier this season without a recognised striker, we could have used Abrahams (who was our next senior striker taking into account the others on loan), rather than sticking a square peg in a round hole, trying an experiment that had already failed before - would it have been such a crime to see what he had in his locker?

Vidicshin, in his first time round the only teenager I can recall him giving any time to was Robert Huth!

I think we are gonna need to have an injury crises to get a few youth team players into the squad. Doesn't help that we usually have a very fit squad to chose form most seasons.

I wouldn't blame Jose for not bringing through youth. It's been like this since Roman took over. No time to bring kids through as it's such a huge pressure job.

The only player I was disappointed with Jose letting go off was Bertrand. Solid RB.

Lukaku and KDB wanted out/Didn't want to fight for their place.

I wasn't disappointed to see Cuad or Salah go. Both made Ramires look good on the wing.
