I'm not sure I'd even heard of libertarians before the whole Trump election fiasco. I certainly didn't know very much about them, or what they stood for. Now I think they're amongst the very worst people in the world.

You don't really hear much about it in the UK as traditionally we are communitarian following WW2. We kind of trust the government to control certain things which is why we have the NHS. Libertarians used to come from the left in the form of anarchists.

Right wing libertarianism crept over from America with Thatcherism and we seem to have imported more in recent years. Now there is a whole wing of the Tory party that seem to become more vocal since the Brexit vote.

Interestingly, it is causing a bit of a divide in the Tory party. Traditionally the right have been better at putting differences aside and placing more importance on winning elections, but as this group become more vocal I think there is an increased risk of them fracturing.

Good.

Of the 100 Tories who rebelled this week, it was a nice mixture of established names (some with quite a bit of clout) and new MPs elected on the back of the Get Brexit Done bullsheet, social (relative) liberals and conservatives.

Could be a strong enough group forming to do some damage to the cohesion of the party.

Can anyone remember what the punishment was for breaking the Christmas rules last year? I mean for us non-politicians of course

I’m not cancelling Christmas this year, no way.

Think it was fines. From a few hundred up to £10,000 depending on party size.

Big by election today, Tories expected to struggle to hold on..

By Election Day in North Shropshire, seems that it’s gonna be the Dems who’ll be running the Tories close instead of Labour according to reports.

I have no idea how the Dems are running them close instead of Labour though seeing as they’ve been runners up in that seat since ‘97

I've also been reading about the Miami showband massacre following the news that the government has agreed to pay compensation to the families and survivors after evidence has been presented in court showing collusion between the terrorists and the British Army..

Quick stop the court case!!!!

Because disillusioned Tories are far more likely to vote Lib dem than labour.

As the predicted polls came out, they should have stood a unity candidate imo.

Is it that big?

The Lib Dems throw the kitchen sink at these by elections then tell us what a significant breakthrough it is when they win only to lose the seat at the next GE (Amersham will be the same).

Can't see the Tories losing, not with the 23,000 majority.
Hugely embarrassing if they did, the British public showing how they don't like dishonest liars representing them.

I hope the Tories hang on, can you imagine the Layla Moran interviews if the Libs take it!!?

She'll be even more condescending than normal.

1922 Committee will accept emails of no confidence in PM if the Conservatives lose North Shropshire today.

They used to tell us the Conservatives were ruthless with failing leaders, no caveats, no dithering.
It's an absolute cult around this stage.

But not more condescending than telling the public to abide by rules and then instantly acting above those rules
