A boat race??!!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, it's where you split into two teams and have a drink downing race. Stand in a line and you can only start drinking when the person in front has finished. First team to finish wins.
We did try to hire boats one year to race across the lake by the Snow Dome, but we're discouraged by one of my overly cautious friends. Apparently, being inebriated on a lake in December isn't a good idea.
Tam has been playing us all along. He’s actually a self-made millionaire paying 3% tax racing boats in Henley on Thames

We've ended up in a karaoke bar a number of times as well. We've ran a few X Factor style competitions where we ask a randomer in the bar to be a judge.
I forgot to mention too, that the day starts with a secret santa. £5 limit and you don't know who you get as names get pulled out of a hat (so you could yourself). The present has to be carried around for the day, so you usually try to get something awkward. I managed to get a life size cardboard cut out of David Hasselhoff from ebay one year, then pulled my own name out and had to carry it round all day.
I found video of that Penny Mordaunt US-tour speech and it sounds worse than it even reads.
To be clear, Mordaunt is framing Brexit as a war and telling America it has a responsibility to be on our side and against the EU, "because peace and prosperity don't happen by accident".

"One of the other comments I've heard is people are concerned we're prioritising Covid over other things... cancer, Covid over other serious issues."
CHRIS WHITTY
"This is sometimes said by people who have no understanding of health at al, but don't think it is said by anyone who's serious, if I'm honest. "And when they say it, it's usually because they want to make a political point. "The reality is, if you ask any doctor working in any part of the system they'll say this, that what is threatening our ability to do cancer... is the fact that so much of the NHS effort, so many of the beds, are having to be put over to Covid and we're having to work in a less efficient way because Covid is there."
"The idea that the lockdowns caused the problems with things like cancer is a complete inversion of reality. If we'd not had the lockdowns, the whole system would be in deep, deep trouble."
I see the 'they're cancelling cancer treatments' argument all the time. Unfortunately, a large number of people lack critical thinking ability and it becomes impossible to explain that the impact would be a lot worse if the NHS became overloaded.
It's the same as the people who fail the acknowledge that mitigations put in place following the scientific models being drawn up may have been the reason those models weren't accurate. Instead they will just keep arguing all models have been wrong.
My mum hasnt had any of her cancer treatments cancelled due to lockdowns/covid/capacity at all... Sadly there's nothing else they can do for her now but the NHs have been amazing and available throughout
Literally the only impact it made was noone was allowed to be with her during chemo treatments and we had to do special things in dropping off/picking up

Away and don’t talk utter nonsense. You have absolutely no idea how many other deaths and carnage are baked in because of the impact of lockdowns. And that doesn’t include the mental damage caused or the financial impact which your children’s kids will still be paying for in many years to come.
Furfuxakes. The sad thing is you think you’re right too, based on nothing more than the “model” in your own head.
Oh wait.
We’ve more enlightened dafties queuing up to inform us as to why they believe they remotely understand the extent of the collateral damage caused by lockdowns.

Tam claimed that he sees the argument all the time re cancer treatments and claimed that things would be a lot worse if we hadn’t locked down before. Nobody knows that and evidence is pouring out every day as to how much more damaging it is. We’ll probably never find out.
His last comment was just a personal swipe at me from yesterday where he “imagined” I’d made claims about modelling and mitigation effects.

Go on. Show me any model that says that the repercussions of lockdown are less than the benefits of lockdown. There’ll be plenty I’m sure that will state the opposite.
And for the record I never said I was right. I’m pointing out that nobody can claim to know one outweighs the other. How could they? The impact of all of this will go on for many years and as far as I’m aware we’re still on that journey.
And like i said earlier I can attest that cancer treatments weren't affected by lockdown and those in the NHS moved heaven and earth to ensure things went ahead with no delay
